Overview

Assists with the management of department activities to include planning, operations, directional supervision of the Supply, Instrumentation, Tray Assembly, Sterilization; Facilitates the flow of Instrumentation equipment and priorities for sterilization; and maintains clear communications with impacted department.

Responsibilities

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assists consistently in the on-going evaluation of systems, activities, and environment, making recommendations for improvement where appropriate.
• Assists in staff development through training/counseling staff regarding hospital, service lines, and department responsibilities, as well as performance standards as needed
• Assists the Manager in the establishment of policies, procedures, and standards to ensure on-going quality services in a safe, productive and cost-effective manner.
• Coordinates effectively unit activities to ensure efficient and competent services maintaining harmonious relationships among staff. Receive and resolve work related problems with appropriate personnel policies and mechanisms.
• Maintains adequate quantity of reprocessed and repackaged supplies, instrumentation, and equipment to meet patient care demands of Surgery and Nursing units.
• Manages all supply, instrumentation, tray assembly, sterilization, and distribution process related to the Surgical and Obstetrics Case Cart System.
• Supervises and evaluates Supply Processing and Distribution staff members.
• Supervises, assigns, and directs the activity of all personnel working in the Supply Processing and Distribution Service Unit.
• Performs other duties as needed and/or assigned.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

• Basic knowledge of computer systems and supply inventory methods.
• Basic knowledge of surgical supplies and instrumentation and sterilization.
• Ability to work at assigned tasks on own initiative, expected to seek assistance on unfamiliar tasks.
• Must possess skills for planning, organizing, directing, and controlling.

EDUCATION

• High School Diploma / GED - Required
• Certificate Sterile Processing - Required
• SPD Course Certification Required

EXPERIENCE

• 2 Years Healthcare/Medical - Instrument Processing/Cart Preparation - Required
• 1 Year Healthcare/Medical - Supervisor - Required
• 1 Year SPD Supervisory - Required
