Under the direction of the SPD Manager, the Supervisor, SPD Operations is responsible for the day-to-day operational flow of the Sterile Processing Department. This role provides direct leadership to SPD staff, ensures compliance with policies and quality standards, supports staff development, and promotes Baystate Health’s mission, values, and operating principles to deliver safe, high-quality patient care.

Create and maintain a positive, respectful work environment that supports open communication and collaboration
Support staff development through coaching, mentoring, and role modeling
Provide direct, honest, and constructive feedback to staff
Identify, manage, and resolve employee concerns and conflict effectively
Facilitate a collaborative, multidisciplinary approach to problem solving
Serve as a consistent resource to staff during departmental and organizational change
Assist the Manager with staff performance evaluations and coaching
Support and promote ongoing staff education by partnering with department educators to identify unit-specific learning needs
Maintain an environment that supports trust, respect, integrity, communication, and teamwork
Monitor adherence to policies and procedures and support process improvement initiatives
Assign daily work across all shifts and supervise SPD Technicians and Service Coordinators
Oversee daily operational flow and ensure departmental readiness, including emergency preparedness
Manage daily staffing needs based on schedules and operational requirements
Identify quality assurance needs and communicate findings to department leadership
Perform Sterile Processing Technician duties as needed to support operations
Minimum Requirements
3–5 years of demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience
3–5 years of experience in sterile processing or a related clinical support environment
Knowledge of sterile processing theory, aseptic technique, instrumentation, and surgical services
Strong leadership, communication, and conflict resolution skills
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment
Commitment to quality, safety, and continuous process improvement
Collaborative approach to team-based care

Note: The compensation range(s) in the table below represent the base salaries for all positions at a given grade across the health system. Typically, a new hire can expect a starting salary somewhere in the lower part of the range. Actual salaries may vary by position and will be determined based on the candidate's relevant experience. No employee will be paid below the minimum of the range. Pay ranges are listed as hourly for non-exempt employees and based on assumed full time commitment for exempt employees.
