If so, the City of Raleigh Solid Waste Services Department is seeking a highly motivated and experienced professional with strong leadership, organizational, analytical, and customer service skills for our Solid Waste Operations Supervisor position.
This position oversees the daily operations of solid waste collection services, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as departmental policies and procedures. The primary purpose of this role is to plan, coordinate, and supervise residential and commercial collection activities while ensuring the safe, efficient, and effective delivery of services to the community. Responsibilities include managing staff recruitment, training, scheduling, and performance; overseeing operational budgets and equipment maintenance; developing collection routes and schedules; analyzing operational data to improve efficiency and service delivery; responding to customer inquiries and citizen concerns; maintaining records and reports; and collaborating with internal departments and external agencies to support the City’s waste management goals and commitment to exceptional public service.
Solid Waste Services collects and processes residential garbage, recycling, yard waste materials, and several specialized collection services. High School diploma or G.E.D. equivalency; 5 to7 years’ experience in residential/commercial solid waste collection, supervisory, or a related field
OR
Any equivalent combination of training and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be substituted
ADA and Other Requirements:
Sedentary: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, a negligible amount of force frequently, and/or constantly having to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
Work Environment: Work is typically performed in an outdoor environment, at a construction site and in and around vehicles. Employees may occasionally work in an office or similar indoor environment, near moving traffic, and in confined spaces.
Work Exposure: There is frequent exposure to fumes and airborne particles and loud noises. Employees may occasionally interact with individuals who are hostile or irate, in extreme cold (below 32 degrees) in extreme heat (above 100 degrees) and around moving mechanical parts.
