Women’s Residence Portfolio:
The Women’s Residence (WR) Portfolio operates three City of Toronto locations that provide shelter and housing supports to individuals experiencing homelessness. The portfolio includes Women’s Residence, an emergency shelter serving women; the Alexandra Hotel, which supports women’s through Encampment Response and Street to Homes referrals; and Fort York Residence, atransitional housing program for men. Across these locations, the portfolio serves diverse populations experiencing homelessness, including individuals with complex and intersecting needs such as mental health challenges, substance use, and chronic health issues Through a trauma-informed and client-centered approach, staff provide support, safety, and connections to housing and community services to help clients move toward stability and long-term housing solutions.
2 Buttonwood (Expected New Vacancy):
The City is developing a new shelter at 2 Buttonwood Ave., which will serve women with children experiencing homelessness. At full capacity, the program will support up to 96 families. Reporting to the Manager, the shelter is seeking a Supervisor, Social Assistance – Programming responsible for the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of programming for children, youth, and adults. The role leads the design and delivery of inclusive, trauma-informed programs that promote child and youth development, family wellbeing, life skills, recreation, and therapeutic engagement, while fostering community connection and social inclusion. The Supervisor ensures effective integration and utilization of community partnerships. The role works collaboratively with the site’s Senior Management Team and programming staff across family shelter sites to support consistency, quality, and alignment with divisional priorities, best practices, and Toronto Shelter & Support Services (TSSS) standards. The role ensures programming aligns with case management and housing goals, as well as shelter policies and health and safety requirements, and is accountable for monitoring program effectiveness, incorporating client feedback, and using data to inform continuous improvement. The Supervisor also provides leadership and supervision to Client Program Workers and Activities Organizers, including scheduling, performance management, coaching, and fostering a safe, inclusive, and equitable service environment.
