Shared Hospital Laboratory Inc. (SHL) is an independent corporation owned and operated by Scarborough Health Network, North York General Hospital, Michael Garron Hospital and Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. SHL provides high quality, efficient, advanced microbiology services. SHL has proven to be one of the most successful and sustainable models of laboratory collaboration in Ontario. SHL has a Board approved strategic plan focused on growth through optimizing/expanding clinical scope, fostering new partnerships, and advancing technology/infrastructure to ensure long-term sustainability.
Reporting to the Manager of the Shared Hospital Laboratory, the Supervisor acts as a liaison between management and staff for operational and functional issues and provides technical, LIS, human resources and quality management support.
Leadership Responsibilities
Implements, monitors and ensures compliance with the Laboratory Quality Management System
Ensures all staff are oriented and trained and oversees such activities to meet regulatory competencies
Facilitates and co-ordinates the evaluation of new technologies and equipment, working closely with the medical, scientific and technical staff.
Provides troubleshooting and problem resolution services for reported quality problems
Assists with shift and rotation work assignments and schedules.
Participate in management on call duties
Promotes a positive working climate to foster the development of team spirit and high morale
Participates in the activities / projects of the laboratory, facilitating expert input where necessary
Plans, organizes and supervises the technical activities of SHL
Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
Undergraduate degree in Medical Laboratory technology or ART.
Registration with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO) in Microbiology. Certificate in Quality Management, an asset
Preferred experience with the molecular microbiology techniques.
Preferred knowledge of Laboratory information systems (EPIC).
5 years supervisory experience within a Laboratory environment preferred
5 years’ experience working with QMS, and complex laboratory issues
Demonstrates excellent organizational, time-management and team building skills
Demonstrates excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
Advanced computer skills
Demonstrates excellent problem-solving, decision making and critical thinking skills
Demonstrates ability to investigate incidents/non-conformances, perform service recovery and plan/do/check process improvements
Demonstrates a commitment to customer service when dealing with patients, colleagues and volunteers and other members of the community and public
Demonstrates values consistent with SHL’s Code of Conduct and is committed to fostering a healthy and positive work environment in accordance with Health & Safety policy and legislation.
Demonstrates an understanding of and commitment to SHL's comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff safety, patient safety, and environmental safety and participates in regular in-service education in this area.
