Job Description

The Safety and Security Supervisor plays a key role in maintaining a safe, secure, and productive high-volume Distribution Center in Ottawa, KS during the weekend daylight shift. This role coordinates day-to-day activities across the weekend to ensure consistent implementation of safety policies, incident response, and security protocols.

ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Safety Duties

  • Weekend Point of Contact: Act as the primary safety resource and point of contact for all weekend operational departments.
  • Incident Response & Support: Respond promptly to safety incidents and medical events. Assist with initial documentation, witness statements, and reporting to support the operations team.
  • Investigation Quality: Lead thorough accident and near-miss investigations for weekend events, utilizing root-cause analysis to deploy immediate and appropriate corrective actions.
  • Observations & Coaching: Conduct regular floor safety observations, provide real-time feedback, and reinforce a proactive safety culture.
  • Regulatory Program Ownership: Take direct ownership of specific, assigned safety topics and regulatory programs (e.g., Hazard Communication, Lockout/Tagout, PPE, or Fall Protection) to ensure all associated federal OSHA requirements are fully maintained.
  • Compliance & Risk Assessments: Perform routine safety walks, hazard assessments, and facility inspections to proactively identify, isolate, and resolve unsafe conditions.

Security Duties

  • Investigations: Assist with investigations related to theft, workplace violence concerns, or policy violations.
  • Access Control: Issue and deactivate access cards, manage badge supplies, and maintain control of campus keys.
  • Systems Support: Support badge access issues, review camera footage when needed, and provide oversight for contract security guards.
  • Site Programs: Manage the site’s parking program, vehicle registrations, and visitor sign-in process.
  • Monitoring: Monitor security desk operations, video surveillance, fire/burglary alarms, and inbound/outbound trailer security.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience: Minimum of 4 years of hands-on experience in building security, loss prevention, asset protection, or logistics operations. A proven track record of dependability is essential.
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. A college degree or formal safety certifications (ASP/CSP) are not required; equivalent, real-world operational experience and capability are highly valued.
  • Safety Aptitude: A strong desire and readiness to learn, apply, and take ownership of industrial safety standards, incident investigation methodologies, and federal OSHA regulations.
  • Versatility & Autonomy: Highly adaptable generalist capable of adjusting to changing priorities and working independently without needing constant supervision.
  • Core Competencies: Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills with a distinct operational drive, high attention to detail, and a sharp sense of urgency.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency with Google Suite; experience with Vector EHS, AccessIT, and Ava CCTV systems is a plus.
  • Preferred Certifications: OSHA 10/30, CPR/First Aid.
