The Opportunity
 
We are currently seeking a Supervisor, Safety to join our team in Sudbury, Ontario.
 
This is a permanent onsite position. This posting is for an existing vacancy. The work schedule is primarily Monday to Friday, subject to change at the discretion of the organization based on business needs.
 
The Supervisor, Safety provides real‑time health and safety expertise to Ontario Operations, reducing risk through proactive partnerships with stakeholders. It requires strong social, technical, and commercial knowledge to navigate legislation, plant operations, the Ministry, and union relationships. The position leads and participates actively in Safety and Health initiatives and supports operations during off‑hours, including participation in the HSR on‑call roster.
 
Additionally, in this position you will:
  • MOL interface duties include acting as the primary contact during all inspector visits, travelling with inspectors, responding to orders and information requests, maintaining internal MOL databases, requesting extensions, submitting all required reports, supporting appeals and investigations, and communicating MOL activity to managers, superintendents, supervisors and the union.
  • JHSC representation involves participating as a site representative and helping develop actions that improve overall health and safety performance.
  • Field coaching responsibilities include coaching superintendents, supervisors and workers on safety systems and field‑level risk tools, spending significant time in the field, observing interactions and identifying opportunities to strengthen risk management practices.
  • Incident management duties include supporting investigations, confirming final injury and incident classifications, documenting findings and coordinating return‑to‑work requirements with line management.
  • Risk assessment leadership includes leading or supporting JHAs, MOCs, BTAs and other assessments, investigating operational and process safety events, determining root causes and developing preventive recommendations.
  • Strategic planning support includes contributing to execution strategies with the Operational Risk Specialist and supporting operating plans aligned with the Ontario Strategy Plan.
  • Emergency and audit responsibilities include advising leadership during emergencies, maintaining emergency plans and preparing accurate audit and report documentation.
  • SHE programs and regulatory expertise include delivering SHE awareness programs, providing regular activity reports, participating in SHE‑related risk assessments and maintaining strong knowledge of the OHSA and all applicable regulations including Mines and Mining Plants.

About You
Education:
  • A College Diploma or University Degree in a related industrial field is preferred.
  • Canadian Registered Safety Professional Certification is preferred.
  • Common Core for Generic First Line Supervisor (770141)
 
Experience:
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in OHS
  • Minimum 5 years supervising in operations, including leading crews and applying best work practices.
  • Extensive experience with safety systems  
  • Expert Knowledge of OHS codes and industry standards.
 
 
Skills:
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and work well with others in a team environment.
  • Must have strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Must be obsessed with safety and risk.
  • Must demonstrate open and transparent dialogue in all aspects of work.
