Job Description


Lead and supervise the Quality Control (QC) and Outgoing Quality Assurance (OQA) team within Operations to ensure effective execution of inspection, defect detection, and quality monitoring activities across manufacturing. Provide full‑day supervisory coverage to support rapid quality issue resolution, maintain stable manpower coverage, and strengthen day‑to‑day QC discipline. Drive standardization, continuous improvement, and operational readiness, including support for new site setup and expansion activities..


RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Quality Control Operations & Daily Supervision
    • Provide full‑shift supervisory coverage to ensure consistent QC presence and faster response to quality issues.
    • Oversee daily QC & OQA activities including in‑process, and final inspections & Outgoing Quality Assurance to ensure compliance with defined standards and work instructions.
    • Monitor defect trends, inspection results, and quality performance; escalate issues promptly and ensure containment actions are implemented.
    • Ensure strong day‑to‑day control of QC stations, inspection methods, and acceptance criteria.
    • To manage the in-process Quality control and conduct audits as planned; issue Internal CARs, drive CAPA implementation till closure within the defined timeline.
  2. Manpower Management & Workforce Coverage
    • Maintain an effective supervisor‑to‑headcount ratio to enable strong people management and operational control.
    • Respond quickly to manpower shortages caused by medical leave, absenteeism, or attendance issues through rapid resource reallocation.
    • Minimize operational and quality risks by ensuring adequate QC coverage across all shifts and lines.
    • Track QC attendance, tardiness, and discipline; address issues in line with company policies and escalate when necessary.
  3. Defect Detection, Performance Monitoring & Reporting
    • Strengthen defect detection through consistent inspection execution and close monitoring of escape risks.
    • Review daily quality data, defect reports, and rework/scrap information to support corrective and preventive actions.
    • Communicate quality performance, risks, and priorities clearly to Operations, Engineering, and Quality leadership.
    • Support root cause investigations by providing first‑hand inspection data, defect observations, and inspector feedback.
  4. Training, Coaching & Team Development
    • Train and coach QC inspectors on inspection techniques, defect recognition, quality standards, and discipline requirements.
    • Build quality awareness and accountability within the QC team.
    • Provide on‑the‑job guidance to improve inspector skill levels, judgment consistency, and adherence to procedures.
    • Support onboarding and qualification of new QC personnel.
  5. Compliance & General Duties
    • Ensure all QC activities comply with company quality systems, work instructions, EHS requirements, and 5S principles.
    • Maintain confidentiality of all information related to products, processes, materials, and business operations.
    • Adhere to organizational requirements on quality management, health and safety, code of conduct, legal regulations, and general duty of care.
    • Perform other duties as assigned to support quality and operational excellence.
  6. Cross‑Site & New Site Support
    • Provide additional QC leadership support for cross site setup, including standard implementation and core QC team building.
    • Support alignment of QC standards, inspection methods, and reporting between sites.
    • Assist in defining staffing models, station layouts, and inspection coverage for new or expanding operations.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

• Location: Penang Science Park, Simpang Ampat Penang.
• Works in a standard office environment and uses general office equipment (Telephone, PC etc.).
• Frequent visits to production areas are required.
• Works in a fast-paced manufacturing/lab environment.  

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Minimum 6 years of experience in Quality Control or Manufacturing Quality, with prior supervisory or team‑lead exposure preferred.
• Strong hands‑on knowledge of inspection methods, defect detection, and workmanship standards in a manufacturing environment.
• Proven experience in daily manpower supervision, including attendance control, shift coverage, and rapid response to absenteeism.
• Ability to provide full‑day floor support and lead timely containment and escalation of quality issues.
• Experience in QC station setup, standardization, and continuous improvement activities.
• Working knowledge of QMS requirements and compliance with procedures and work instructions.
• Ability to train, coach, and manage QC inspectors, ensuring discipline, consistency, and performance.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work cross‑functionally with Production, Engineering, and Quality teams.
• Willingness to support new site setup or cross‑site activities, including standard implementation where required.

EXPERIENCE:
Essential:
• Minimum 6 years of hands‑on experience in Quality Control or Manufacturing Quality within a production environment.
• Experience supervising or leading QC inspectors or shop‑floor quality staff on daily operations.
• Practical experience in in‑process and/or final inspection, defect identification, and quality issue containment.
• Experience managing daily manpower coverage, including attendance, shift allocation, and handling absenteeism.
• Exposure to QC station setup, standard work, or inspection standardization activities.
• Experience working closely with Production and Engineering teams to resolve quality issues on the floor.

Preferred:
• Experience working in electronics, EMS, or high‑mix manufacturing environments.
• Previous involvement in new line setup, site expansion, or cross‑site standard implementation.
• Experience supporting customer audits, internal audits, or quality system activities.
• Hands‑on experience using basic quality tools such as 5 Whys, Fishbone, or Pareto analysis.
• Experience mentoring inspectors or acting as a lead/supervisor before formal appointments.
• Familiarity with ESD controls, 5S, and shop‑floor discipline requirements.

EDUCATION:
Essential:
• Degree in Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, or a related technical field; equivalent experience may be considered.
