Job Description

Direct and coordinates activities of component production department in processing materials or manufacturing products by performing the following duties.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The following is a list of minimum responsibilities related to the Supervisor of Printing position. Other duties may also be assigned.
  • Direct responsibility for the management of skilled and unskilled workers over three shifts. Includes hiring, training and discipline. Advises the Site Lead of any issues inhibiting the orderly operation of the Printing Department.
  • Monitors Time / Attendance and schedules vacations for smooth and orderly plant operation.
  • Reviews production orders and schedules to ascertain product data such as types, quantities, and specifications of products as well as scheduled delivery dates to plan department operations.
  • Supplies the component needs of all packaging plants as dictated by Schedulers and Site Lead or Manager of Operations.
  • Plans production operations, establishing priorities and sequences for printing jobs with the assistance of the Scheduler, Site Lead or Manager of Operations. Prepares work orders and requisitions supplies for Component plant.
  • Coordinates purchases, also advises the Purchasing department on inventories and other materials needed.
  • Prepares schedules and coordinates manufacturing activities to ensure production and quality of products meets specifications.
  • Reviews production and operating reports and resolves operational, manufacturing, and maintenance problems to ensure minimum costs and prevent operational delays. Determines need for overtime or outsourcing along with Site Lead.
  • When necessary, find and develop outsourcing for print shop needs and any other services needed to provide high-quality printed components.
  • Reviews labor and material costs against standards. Works with Finance and Estimating departments to establish more efficient Standard Costs.
  • Inspects machines and equipment to ensure specific operational performance and optimum utilization. Schedules and monitors all printing operation’s machinery maintenance.
  • Develops and/or revises standard operational procedures, and working practices and observes workers to ensure compliance with standards.
  • Responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Pre-Press System, Global Vision, Aquaflex machines and others as necessary
  • Works with Project Managers and/or Order Management to ensure timely delivery of all flexo plates.
  • Reviews all approved “final” proofs in Global Vision prior to creation of flexo plates.
  • Responsible for flexo plate destruction.
  • Responsible for cleanliness of the equipment and department, and all associated logs books.
  • Responsible for database housing all item numbers for approved artwork of flexo plates.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manages Graphics Specialists and Printing Department employees. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this unit. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and non-conformances; and resolving problems.


PREFERRED / REQUIRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or 2 to 5 years’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
