Medical Center: Operating Room- Full-Time, Night Shift

The Supervisor, Patient Care-OR, works collaboratively with the nursing leadership team to provide clinical, administrative, financial and human resource management of the operating room in a Magnet Designated tertiary academic Medical Center with level one trauma designation. Demonstrates comprehensive nursing knowledge applicable to the specialty practice of perioperative nursing. Influences cutting-edge and innovative surgical practices by adhering to the Association of Operating Room Nurses (AORN) standards of practice and organization and department policies and procedures. Achieves and maintains credible collegial working relationships with perianesthesia and perioperative areas, surgeons' offices, schedulers, physicians/surgeons and staff. Contributes to the "team oriented" environment by consistently demonstrating cooperative, constructive, and problem-solving interaction with direct report employees and those that are not direct reports. Utilizes skilled discretion and independent judgment to oversee and supervise a team of licensed and unlicensed staff who provide direct and indirect age-specific patient care for a diverse outpatient and inpatient population in a fast-paced environment. Coordinates daily shift activities based on the needs of the patient population served, patient procedures and surgeries scheduled, staffing resources, established professional practice model (Duffy's Quality-Caring Model), applicable regulatory standards and requirements, and approved clinical practice standards, policies and procedures. Assigns and re-assigns staff and workloads to provide uninterrupted, cost effective patient care and patient flow with optimum productivity. Functions within the expectations of a highly proficient professional nurse and meets nursing excellence standards to maintain Magnet Recognition as outlined by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). Promotes the empowerment of the nursing profession and excels in implementing new knowledge, innovations and improvements in practice to enhance the patient experience and clinical outcomes. Serves as a role model in patient care delivery methods and consistently demonstrates an advanced level of clinical practice, communication and documentation. Applies advanced theoretical concepts to clinical practice and exhibits self-motivation to continually expand knowledge base and clinical skills with a focus in perioperative nursing. Facilitates a positive environment and provides hands-on guidance to engage staff in adopting a care delivery model of accountability, empowerment and excellence in practice. Performs other duties as needed.

Education and Experience: Bachelors' degree in nursing required. If Bachelors' degree is in a non-nursing field, then a Masters' Degree in Nursing is required. Minimum of three years nursing experience in procedural or perioperative nursing required. Minimum of one year of prior management or supervisory experience preferred. Certified Perioperative Nurse (CNOR) preferred.

Knowledge and Skills: In-depth knowledge of perioperative and intraoperative nursing and instrumentation required. Basic knowledge of healthcare regulations and survey process required. Proficiency in leadership and communications skills required. Exhibits professional behavior at all times. Ability to apply theoretical concepts to clinical practice and continually expands knowledge base and clinical skills with a focus in perioperative and intraoperative nursing. Able to read and write legibly in English (and Spanish preferred) with professional quality; use computer, printer and software programs necessary to the position, e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, electronic medical record, electronic event reporting program; relate and communicate positively, effectively and professionally with others; be assertive and consistent in following and enforcing policies; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure; lead, supervise, teach and collaborate; accept direction; think critically; work independently with minimal supervision; perform basic math and statistical functions; manage multiple assignments effectively; organize and prioritize workload; problem solve; recall information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail; distinguish colors and smells as necessary for patient care; troubleshoot and calibrate patient care equipment; perform technical patient care activities; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone; identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the work place and patient care; see adequately to read computer screens, medical records and written documents necessary to position; discern temperature variances through touch.

Licensures and Certifications: Active California Registered Nurse (RN) license required. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association required.
