The First Line Supervisor will direct and coordinate activities within their area of responsibility. This position will ensure the safe, efficient and reliable operations at Equistar Pipeline’s Markham Storage Facility to satisfy customer requirements, manufacturing performance measures, regulatory agency requirements and community obligations. The successful candidate will provide positive leadership by serving as a role model, setting expectations and maintaining accountability around those expectations, and provide timely performance feedback through the effective use of dialog and coaching.
A Day in the Life
- Manage daily activities within area of responsibility.
- Ensure the availability of all necessary resources (people, material, equipment, tools, parts, etc.) in order to guarantee safe and reliable operations and/or maintenance of site assets
- Monitor all existing applicable performance indicators, scheduling and making necessary decisions in case of deviations.
- Actively participates in troubleshooting and resolution of mechanical and process issues.
- Adhere to procedures and guidelines to ensure consistency across all areas of responsibility.
- Ensure compliance with Company Operational Excellence standards and site procedures.
- Drive performance to the business plan through sound practices and policies.
- Coordinate activities with support groups in order to ensure the effective operation of assets.
- Facilitate procedure reviews with direct reports, audit procedures against tasks and propose procedure revisions to continuously improve site performance and compliance requirements.
- Foster employee development through evaluation of capabilities, consistent feedback, coaching and strategic unit assignments.
- Recognize achievements and provide constructive feedback while serving as a coach, advisor and mentor.
- Supervisor employees and manage hiring, promotions, performance improvement, and other employee- related practices and decisions.
- Be an effective communicator with the team, as well as with the day staff and site management.
- Administer company policy and procedures.
- Develop summaries and plans regarding continuous improvement ideas and activities on a basis of accumulated data and documentation.
- Champion innovative ideas from site employees
- Collaborate with peers, technical and maintenance teams, and management staff to identify problems, propose solutions, and implement improvements.
- Stabilie, slowdown or shutdown any activity that could result in an injury, process safety event, environmental event or unstable operating condition.
- Correct any personnel issues that arise with assigned area.
- Off-hour accountability for Operations activities, productivity, and HSE.
- Ensure compliance with HSE regulation and company policies.
- Participate in the implementation and follow-up of the Pipeline’s HSE policies.
- Serve as incident commander of shift and be able to respond to incidents as required.
- Follow-up daily with personnel to ensure compliance with HSE regulations, GoalZero, and work procedures.
- Establish standards such that all employees have a high level of safety and environmental awareness and are accountable for their actions.
- Ensure direct reports are compliant with training requirements, e.g. certifications, DOT operator qualifications, management of change, investigation review, new equipment and procedure updates.
- Address concerns with regard to safety, environmental, equipment, process or personnel issues and escalate appropriately.
- Ensure that issues and incidents are reported, investigated and resolved in a timely manner with corrective action where appropriate.
You Bring This Value
- · High school diploma
- · Minimum of 5 years of experience in storage terminal operations
- · Two years of supervisory, step-up supervisor, or other similar leadership experience is strongly preferred
- · Must be able to travel occasionally with overnight stay- less than 10% of time
- · Demonstrated strong technical skills in the following ares a plus: continuous unit operations and underground storage facilities
- · Strong verbal and written communication skills
- · Ability to supervisor and motivate others with strong leadership and teamwork abilities
- · Strong independent decision-making skills
- · Able to work outside under various weather conditions
- · Must have strong computer skills, including SAP and Microsoft Office
- · Familiarity with DCS and/or SCADA operating systems
- · Able to understand and adhere to environmental, health, safety, security and quality policies
