Job Shift: Third ShiftThe Supervisor of Emergency Services is responsible for providing supervision and operational oversight for The Center for Women and Families’ “the Center” Emergency Shelter program. This role ensures daily operations run effectively, providing trauma-informed leadership, staff supervision, and strategic program management to meet the needs of survivors of intimate partner violence and sexual assault.
The Supervisor oversees case management, client intake, and data reporting, ensuring services align with best practices in trauma-informed care. Working closely with the Director of Emergency Shelter and other program leaders, this position plays a key role in staff development, program improvement, and ensuring compliance with funding and regulatory requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Program Leadership & Shelter Operations
- Provide daily oversight and leadership in the Emergency Shelter, ensuring smooth operations and effective client services.
- Oversee staff scheduling and shift coverage, ensuring adequate support for shelter residents.
- Manage direct service operations, including daily case management, counseling services, and support groups for adults, children, and families experiencing trauma.
- Supervise and provide guidance to staff, students, and interns, ensuring high-quality client interactions.
- Coordinate and lead client intake processes, ensuring accurate case documentation and data entry.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Staff Supervision & Development
- Provide individual and group supervision to emergency shelter employees, supporting their professional development and adherence to trauma-informed care principles.
- Foster a supportive and structured work environment, ensuring staff maintain professional boundaries with co-workers and clients.
- Conduct regular case conferences and team meetings, ensuring collaborative decision-making and continuous program improvement.
- Assist in interviewing, hiring, and training new staff, ensuring they are prepared to provide trauma-informed services.
- Conduct performance evaluations and improvement plans, ensuring staff accountability and growth.
Strategic Planning & Program Improvement
- Work in collaboration with the Director of Emergency Shelter, Program Leadership, and Executive Leaders to make strategic decisions about shelter clients and transitioned client support.
- Examine and implement programmatic changes and prevention initiatives that improve shelter services.
- Participate in organizational strategic planning efforts to align emergency shelter services with The Center’s long-term goals.
- Ensure data tracking and reporting requirements are met for program evaluation, grant compliance, and funding opportunities.
Financial Oversight & Compliance
- Assist the Director of Emergency Shelter in budget development and fiscal management, ensuring responsible allocation of resources.
- Monitor financial expenditures related to shelter operations, supporting healthy fiscal outcomes for the Emergency Shelter program.
- Ensure compliance with funding requirements, state and federal regulations, and The Center’s policies and procedures.
- Maintain confidentiality and ethical standards in all shelter operations and client interactions.
Skill Requirements
- Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to oversee complex emergency shelter operations.
- Expertise in trauma-informed care, crisis intervention, and domestic violence/sexual assault services.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to facilitate staff development and case conferences.
- Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities to navigate high-pressure situations and make informed programmatic decisions.
- Strong organizational and data management skills, ensuring accurate recordkeeping and program evaluation.
- Ability to mediate conflicts and facilitate resolution processes for both clients and staff.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and client database systems for reporting and tracking client progress.
- Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, ensuring an inclusive and culturally competent work environment.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; a minimum of 3 years of experience in a related field may be substituted for a degree.
- Minimum 1 year of supervisory experience in social services, emergency shelter, crisis intervention, or nonprofit management.
- Experience in case management, program development, and trauma-informed care preferred.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and maintain a driving record that meets CWF automobile insurance requirements if operating a company vehicle.
- Must have a successful background check.
- Fluency in languages other than English is a plus.
Essential Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods in an emergency shelter setting.
- Occasional lifting of materials related to shelter operations and staff training.
- Must be able to lift 25 lbs and up to 70 lbs with assistance.
- Ability to work in high-stress environments, including crisis situations and emergency response efforts.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and on-call shifts as required to meet shelter operational needs.

We help our clients and their dependent children become survivors through trauma-informed advocacy. Our goal is to mitigate the impact of their trauma by reducing their risk factors and building their resiliency. We serve anyone in Jefferson, Bullitt, Spencer, Shelby, Oldham, Henry, and Trimble counties in Kentucky and Floyd and Clark counties in Indiana.
