Mobile Crisis - Supervisor

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Under the supervision/direction of the Executive Community Mental Health Liaison, acts as a working supervisor to provide supervision and leadership to staff on the Mobile Crisis Response Team (MCRT). The position is responsible for administrative oversight and coordinates operational and personnel activities to ensure provision of high-quality patient care. The role involves a high degree of collaboration and communication and utilizing participative decision-making when appropriate. The supervisor works closely with the Des Moines Police Department. The supervisor is responsible for promoting the ongoing development of staff and maintaining a professional environment.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Participates in daily operations and performs Mobile Crisis duties alongside staff to ensure smooth workflow and model best practices.
  2. Provides direct supervision to staff in assigned areas including new employee training, staff education, orientation resource, Quality Improvement monitoring, schedule creation and distribution, processing timecards, and completion of performance evaluations.
  3. Investigates and resolves patient and staff complaints within the assigned units.
  4. Ensures performance improvement activities are completed in collaboration with Executive Community Mental Health Liaison.
  5. Monitors staff and demonstrates clear expectations of accountability based on job descriptions and department needs.
  6. Monitors and observes staff in daily duties regarding practices and provides immediate feedback to promote teamwork, collaboration, communication, and patient flow within BMC.
  7. Collaborates with other departments to ensure coordinated patient care and a positive team environment is maintained.
  8. Participates and makes recommendations for interviewing, hiring, orientation, evaluation, and personnel management.
  9. Reviews and revises department policies and procedures in collaboration with the Executive Community Mental Health Liaison.
  10. Completes any necessary data collection required for tracking and billing purposes.
  11. Works collaboratively to coordinate department meetings and maintenance of meeting minutes.
  12. Maintains clinical competency to provide leadership for staff.
  13. Communicates professionally, clearly, concisely, and accurately; creating a working climate that promotes growth, team spirit and job satisfaction of personnel.
  14. Provides input for budget preparation for equipment as needed.
  15. Ensures compliance with regulatory and accrediting guidelines and agencies' policies.
  16. Responds to consultative needs of the department.
  17. Evaluates the effectiveness of the care given by interdisciplinary care team, identifies challenges, and counsels team members on solutions. Monitors activities for quality of procedures and performance of staff.
  18. Assists in development and implementation of IT systems and changes in collaboration with IT.
  19. Responsible for external training related to assigned topics to promote BMC and community mission.
  20. Embraces and supports Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives.
  21. Completes other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS

  1. Maintains professional communication with all staff, patients, and customers to provide positive service excellence. Consistently demonstrates willingness and ability to function as clinical coordinator and support BMC Mission, Vision, and Values.
  2. Facilitates designated departmental meetings and "work projects" to develop strategies for continued quality improvement within designated time frame.
  3. Staff are meeting expectations of accountability based on individual job descriptions and organization policies and procedures.
  4. Schedules and timecard approvals are completed within expected timelines.
  5. Performance evaluations are completed in a timely manner and staff are up to date with required trainings.
  6. Reports and documentation are completed within expected timelines.
  7. Completes required annual mandatory education in a timely manner.
  8. Departments maintain productive outcomes.
  9. Maintains competence in clinical skills.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Bachelor’s degree in human services field or current RN license recognized by the State of Iowa Board of Nursing.
  2. 5+ years of related experience in the mental health field.
  3. Demonstrated leadership abilities.
  4. Certification in RQI.
  5. Advanced computer experience.
  6. Proficiency in Word and Excel.
  7. Strong written and verbal communication skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Master’s degree in human services field.
  2. Supervisory experience
  3. Bi-lingual
  4. Meditech experience
  5. Completed Crisis Intervention (CIT) training.
