Department Summary:
The Applied Technology Services (ATS) Engineering staff provides engineering, testing and analysis services and expertise across multiple disciplines to various company organizations to identify, diagnose and solve technical problems. The staff provides consultation and advice to clients to proactively avoid future problems by specifying equipment, materials and methods that are best practices in the industry. Services include inspections, failure analysis, performance assessments, and evaluations on a wide variety of systems and components.
The Mechanical Engineering Services (MES) and Numeric Analysis Unit is one of the groups within ATS. This Unit provides inspection, testing, and engineering services to support the PG&E system. MES work includes performing plant condition and performance assessments, state of the art predictive maintenance applications, Finite Element Analysis (FEA) modeling of power plant components, Computation Fluid Dynamics (CFD) modeling and laboratory stress-strain measurements and analysis. Our engineers and technicians have extensive experience providing testing support for PG&E hydro powerhouse startup and commissioning activities. Additionally, the team provides acoustic and vibration analysis on a wide range of applications.
We are seeking a self-directed and experienced Supervisor to lead our MES & NA Unit to provide instrumentation and startup testing services to PG&E internal clients such as Power Generation, Nuclear Generation, Electric and Gas Operations. This role involves balancing supervising a team of Engineers, Specialist and ESC technicians, managing and providing technical input to multiple projects, and maintaining strong client relationships. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in instrumentation, data acquisition and data processing/analysis of the vibration and condition assessment data collected. In addition, the candidate will also have excellent communication and leadership abilities, and a commitment to safety, process and data quality and continuous improvement.
As the Unit’s technical leader, the Supervisor is expected to work with his team to help implement sound technical methods and work experience to plan and execute complex instrumentation, data acquisition and analysis work. The ideal candidate will have expertise in the use of instrumentation in support of startup testing at power generation facilities (hydro strongly preferred) as well as FEA and CFD analysis and modeling. Successful candidates should be able to effectively communicate plans and results in a fast-paced environment. They will actively contribute to team brainstorming, troubleshooting, and problem-solving efforts with internal and external partners on various engineering projects. This role will independently lead day-to-day operations for the Unit, ensuring adherence to the highest standards of safety, quality, and efficiency. They will also ensure that work expectations are fully met and take appropriate and effective corrective actions when needed. One of the key responsibilities of the supervisor is the maintenance, reliability, and safe operation of testing related equipment and tools. This leader is responsible for fostering a culture of safety and quality, ensuring adherence to all company and regulatory safety and quality policies and procedures.
MES & NA Unit Supervisor is responsible for keeping the Unit’s assigned workspaces clean, organized, and well-stocked of typical consumable items, as well as scheduling maintenance and calibrations of equipment. Furthermore, the candidate will perform strategic planning functions for the Unit, such as forecasting and budgeting, capital tools and facility planning, evaluating potential projects or bids, and allocating resources. They will evaluate new technology for utilization on client projects based on technological advances and the needs of the client.
MES & NA Unit Supervisor will work in a laboratory and office setting with occasional job site field visits associated with supervisor engagements or production work. Safety protocols and personal protective equipment (PPE) are mandatory to ensure a safe working environment.
