Job Description

The Supervisor, Materials Planning provides guidance and support to the Material Planning Department. Provide the strategic direction that will plan, control and coordinate the flow of material on purchased components to ensure the availability to production areas and also maintain inventory levels to the lowest possible levels.

This position will support Rheem North America, based in Fort Smith, AR This is an on-site position.

  • Provide direction and expectations to planning group.
  • Establish Key Activity Matrix that would identify daily, weekly and monthly responsibilities.
  • Establish clear responsibilities on supplier communications between planning group and Purchasing.
  • Establish inventory goals for each planner by supplier, commodity and ABC code.
  • Establish and monitor inventory targets for excess, dormant and obsolete inventory for each planner.
  • Support the establishment of effective commodity codes with Divisional Purchasing.
  • Develop action plan for mid to long range material planning and control.
  • Manage JIT Supplier Mall inventory levels and reorder point maintenance at Hodges Warehouse.
  • Workload analysis of planners to ensure level and equalized workload.
  • Analyze material shortages and quality concerns from supply base and develop root cause improvements working with Divisional Purchasing and Quality Assurance.
  • Review, Analyze and update all MRP planning reports.
  • Responsible for adherence to all approved safety programs and policies.
  • Represent the company in a professional and ethical manner to outside supply base, company representatives and all other internal departments.
  • Support Material Control Stockroom pull system in establishing proper inventory levels, create Kan-Ban levels and develop material flow value stream mapping to reduce inventory transactions.
  • Establish and maintain strong communications and feedback with R&D Engineering Change Notices in order to establish logical implementation dates to use up stock and to have new product on-hand for proper product introductions.
  • Support plant wide Lean initiatives by providing Material Planning representation.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Bachelor's in Business or related field.
  • Typically requires a University Degree or equivalent experience and minimum 5 years of prior relevant experience.
  • Understands basic management approaches such as work scheduling, prioritizing, coaching and process execution.
  • Typically requires broad job knowledge of technical or professional practices within assigned discipline acquired through advanced education combined with work experience.
  • Experience in materials planning.
  • Experience providing work directions to others.
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal, with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficient computer skills and in-depth knowledge of relevant software such as MS Office Suite.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with others is a matrix team environment.
  • Strong experience in ERP, MRP systems and Material Planning Systems.
  • Experience in Lean Manufacturing philosophy and Kan-Ban Systems.
  • Maintains a high degree of confidentiality.
  • Independent thought, good judgment, problem solving skills and the ability to prioritize multiple projects.
  • A team player with solid interpersonal skills.
  • Exhibit the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, suppliers and the general public.
  • Self-motivated with little or no supervision.
  • Meets productivity standards completing work in timely manner and strives to increase productivity.
