The Facilities Maintenance & Construction Supervisor plans, directs and coordinates skilled trades activities pertaining to the construction, renovation and maintenance within the Allison Facilities environment in accordance with company policies, procedures, collective bargaining agreement and governmental regulations. General work assignments include managing a skilled trades crew of approximately 15-20 employees responsible for installing and/or relocating manufacturing and infrastructure equipment, maintaining mechanical and electrical infrastructure systems and preventative maintenance activities.

Responsibilities:

  • Hire, lead, and manage a dynamic team to create an inclusive and collaborative work environment
  • Monitor, evaluate, and provide regular feedback on employee growth and implementing improvement as needed.
  • Drive employee engagement and retention initiatives to maintain a motivated workforce – positively represent corporate communications to influence outcomes that support business strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with Allison Policies and manage employee relations matters as needed.
  • Implements and actively supports the plant and corporate safety policies and initiatives.
  • Responsible for the planning and effective deployment of direct report skilled trades personnel, material, and equipment in supporting Operational Excellence initiatives. The effective use of personnel is achieved via the terms of Local and National Labor agreements, while supporting area and corporate policies.
  • Proactive approach is required. Responsible to diagnose facility needs related to equipment, systems, and determine short term and long-term solutions.
  • Able to apply effective management techniques to the planning, design, and construction of a project from inception to completion for the purpose of controlling time, cost and quality of work.
  • Implements and maintains good housekeeping and jobsite standards.
  • Trains, develops, and evaluates employees.
  • Initiates contact with others outside of work group when required to solve problems.
  • Works and communicates well with management and internal customers to assure understanding of job scope, constraints, schedules, and closure.
  • Physical presence in the workplace is an essential function.

Education Requirement: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience

Experience:

Required:

  • 1+ years’ experience in direct supervision or like technical experience.
  • 3+ years’ experience working in a skilled trades role

Preferred:

  • Experience in a Union Environment

Competencies and Behaviors:

Required:

  • High level of analytical ability where problems are complex required.
  • High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others, motivate employee and elicit work output required.
  • Ability to interpret blueprints and engineering drawings required
  • Effective oral and written communication skills required.
  • Technical training in security and timekeeping systems and the ability to trouble shoot problems with these types of systems.
  • Knowledge of and ability to insure a safe industrial work environment required.

Preferred:

  • High-level ability to multi task and manage multiple complex projects simultaneously.
  • Demonstrates the ability to be self-taught, continuous learning
  • Knowledge of Maximo or other CMMS systems as well as effective use of Microsoft Project or similar.
