How you’ll make an impact
Manage translation services from intake to final delivery as part of the team that helps FCC provide clear, consistent and high-quality content in both official languages. As the main point of contact for clients, you’ll oversee day-to-day linguistic service delivery, define project requirements and acceptance criteria, prepare files for translation, coordinate resources and use data and technology to improve workflows and client outcomes.
Using your strong organization and decision-making skills, you’ll manage multiple complex requests, competing deadlines and changing priorities – and you’ll identify risks early, clarify requirements and resolve linguistic, technical and workflow issues.
We’re looking for an experienced translation-services professional who understands the complete translation lifecycle and can move confidently between client consultation, project management, file preparation, technology and quality assurance. Someone who builds relationships, establishes trust, manages expectations and works effectively with clients, language professionals, vendors and technical partners.
If you’re a confident negotiator and mediator who can balance service quality, scope, timelines, capacity and business priorities, this could be the role for you.
What you’ll do
Manage translation, revision, proofreading, terminology and related linguistic projects from intake and scoping through assignment, production, quality assurance, delivery and client acceptance
Review requests to confirm business needs, audience, scope, timelines, source content, reference material, technical requirements and translation readiness
Define clear acceptance criteria before work begins, including requirements for linguistic quality, terminology, completeness, formatting, functionality, accessibility and client approval
Assess, prepare and troubleshoot source files for translation, including content extraction, file conversion, formatting, version control and validation of modifiable content
Analyze requests using computer-assisted translation tools and assign work to internal or external language professionals based on subject matter, complexity, capacity and delivery requirements
Develop project plans, schedules and workflows; balance priorities and capacity; identify risks; negotiate timelines; and keep clients informed
Coordinate translation, revision, proofreading, formatting and technical quality-control activities to ensure deliverables meet agreed requirements
Monitor service quality, resolve issues and manage changes to scope, files, timelines and deliverables
Maintain accurate project information and use operational data to monitor workload, service standards, quality, turnaround times and vendor performance
Use translation management systems, computer-assisted translation tools, translation memories, termbases, workflow automation and approved AI or machine translation tools responsibly
Lead process-improvement activities and recommend practical solutions to workflow, technology, capacity and service-delivery gaps
Supervise, coach and develop employees while supporting workforce planning, performance management and team effectiveness
Coach clients on translation readiness, realistic timelines, clear instructions and effective review and approval practices
Manage relationships with external language-service providers and monitor vendor performance to ensure quality and service expectations are met
Support and mentor team members and help maintain a collaborative, respectful and high-performing work environment
What you’ll bring to the team
Required qualifications
A bachelor’s degree in translation, linguistics, language studies, business administration, commerce, communications or a related discipline
At least five years of related experience (or an equivalent combination of education and experience)
Demonstrated experience managing translation services from intake to delivery, including scoping, scheduling, resource assignment, file preparation, quality assurance and client acceptance
Experience establishing project requirements and measurable acceptance criteria for linguistic and technical deliverables
Experience assessing, preparing and troubleshooting common business, publishing and digital file formats for translation
Working knowledge of translation management systems, computer-assisted translation tools, translation memories, termbases and automated quality-assurance functions
Knowledge of translation, revision, proofreading and localization practices, including terminology and quality-management principles
Knowledge of project management and process-improvement principles
Fluently bilingual, with excellent oral, reading and writing skills in both French and English
Preferred qualifications
Knowledge of the Official Languages Act and experience delivering services in an official-languages environment
Translation project management, localization project management or PMP certification
Experience refining processes using approved machine translation, artificial intelligence or workflow-automation tools in a professional translation environment
