Responsible for the 24-hour operation of the Inpatient Pharmacy Department. Responsible for achieving established quality and financial budget outcomes. Selects, develops, andmaintainsa team of competent staff. Willassistthe Pharmacy Director in setting thelong- and short-rangegoals of the Pharmacy based on developments and trends in an institutional pharmacy practice and the specific needs of the institution and its patients

Knows and adheres to all Federal and State laws and regulationspertaining tothe practice of Pharmacy in Iowa as well as patient health,safetyand medical information.
Develops, secures approval of, implements, monitors adherence to, and administers departmental policies and procedures, and ensures theyare in compliance withall federal and state (and other accrediting bodies) laws and regulations.
Recommends and implements agreed-upon long- and short-term departmental goals andobjectivesin order toenhance department services. These goals are aligned with corporate goals andobjectives
Prepares, secures approval of, and administers departmental capitalexpenseand operating budgets. Monitors adherence to budgets andinitiatescorrectiveactionas necessary.
Develops and administers all pharmacy programs and services, ensuring prompt andaccuratepreparation and distribution of drugs and other pharmaceuticals to patients.
Evaluates new pharmaceutical drugs, supplies, and equipment, and communicates these findings to the Pharmacy Director and other hospital leadership as applicable. Makes recommendations for acquisition of new oradditionalpharmacy equipment and supplies.
Along with the Pharmacy Director - interviews, hires, evaluates the performance of, and when necessary, disciplines and discharges associates.
Oversees scheduling for all inpatient pharmacy staff.
Manages timecards and approvespayrollsfor all inpatient pharmacy staff.
Develops andmaintainsa quality control program, ensuring department functionsin accordance withall Hospital standards, government and accrediting agency regulations, and the like.
Effectively interacts with pharmacy personnel, physicians,nursesand other healthcare professionals to solve problems in drug distribution and administration.
Develops and implements programs to improve the service of Pharmacy to the Medical Staff and Nursing personnel.
Works with the Shared Services Coordinator to develop,maintainand safely deliver contracted remote pharmacy verification services.
Performs other duties consistent withpurposeofjobas directed.
Performs the responsibilities of a Staff Pharmacist in their absence or as necessary.
General Requirements:
Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacyrequired Advanced education such as Pharm.D. Degree or Master of Science degree in Hospital Pharmacy with equivalent curriculum preferred.
Child and Dependent Adult Abuse Mandatory Reporter Training isrequiredwithin 6 months of hire and every 5 years thereafter.
Registerswith the Iowa Board of Pharmacy as Pharmacist in Charge (PIC)and assures thatall aspects of that responsibility are followed.
Must be a Registered Pharmacist in the State of Iowa in good standing or eligible for registration.
Fiveyears’ experiencein hospital pharmacy with experience in administration, supervision or other leadership or management role preferred.
High levelofproficiencyin Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) andInternet
