Job Description

Position Title: Imaging Supervisor Position Code: SupIR-6158

Department: Imaging Department Safety Sensitive: ☒ Yes ☐ No

Reports to: Imaging Manager Exempt Status: ☒ Yes ☐ No

Qualified candidates must have:

  • ARRT license
  • Completed Imaging Program and have High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience in an Imaging modality
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience in a leadership role

Position Purpose:

In collaboration with Imaging Management, manages designated service line tasks and staff. Under the direction of the Radiologist, performs appropriate diagnostic exams and studies to ensure safe, high-quality patient care.

Key Responsibilities

Coordination of Division and Supervision of Personnel

  1. Provides leadership and support to Imaging staff, coordinates the allocation of resources and Imaging staff, and supports a positive work environment.
  2. Follows the standards established by the medical staff, radiologists, and management team.
  3. Responsible for personnel management, including staff selection, orientation, training, and development.
  4. Coordinates staffing for current and next shift for optimal productivity, taking into consideration patient acuity and staff expertise.
  5. Assists with and delegates patient care activities to appropriate staff.
  6. Leads daily team huddles to provide accurate, consistent information to team members.
  7. Demonstrates the ability to support staff with problem solving and decision making.
  8. Provide and manage constructive feedback.
  9. Provides input regarding employee performance evaluations and competencies.
  10. Attends huddles, lead meetings, and LDI trainings.
  11. Engages and communicates with staff to ensure consistency and standardization of information, including documentation of staff attendance (including personal attendance) at 80% of staff meetings.
  12. Provides fiscal oversight to manage operating budget, productivity and supplies within budget.
  13. Provides oversight to ensure compliance to all regulatory, patient and staff safety requirements.
  14. Performs active inventory management. Receives and communicates with vendors for specialty stock items.
  15. Coordinates purchase of supplies and equipment and makes recommendation regarding capital and operational budgets.

Evaluation and Implementation of Appropriate Care

  1. Continually works to ensure that all patients move smoothly through the Imaging and hospital system.
  2. Addresses workflow issues as appropriate to ensure patient through put. Serves as a clinical resource to staff. Assisting staff with clinical tasks.
  3. Observes patient, technologists, nurses and equipment during procedures. Documents patient reactions or problems on requisition and reports immediately to Manager and Director of Imaging Services.
  4. Reviews diagnostic and patient data for completeness and accuracy. Determines whether the actual outcome is within the established criteria and provides assistance to meet established criteria.
  5. Demonstrates new techniques, equipment and procedures to staff.
  6. Implements and monitor radiation safety measures to ensure safety of patients and staff and to comply with regulatory agency requirements. Adheres to ALARA.
  7. Demonstrates the ability to support staff with problem solving and decision making.
  8. Works to meet patient, physician and staff satisfaction goals by setting the example, using scripting and contributing to teamwork in the department.
  9. Works with Imaging Services management in making daily patient rounds. Is responsive to patient / family requests.
  10. Works to meet patient, physician and staff satisfaction goals by setting the example, using scripting and contributing to teamwork.
  11. Contribute to attainment of Imaging Services’ patient satisfaction goal.
  12. Manage and support the Quality Assurance Program, to include monitoring quality metrics and preparation of quarterly compliance reports.

Qualifications

Education High School Diploma/GED.

Successful completion of a program directly related to the field of Imaging Services.

Licensure Current registration and licensure by the American Registry of Radiological Technologists (ARRT) or other accredited programs directly related to or associated with Imaging Services.

If RN, current and valid licensure through Arizona or compact state.

Certification BLS through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.

Experience Minimum three (3) years of experience in an Imaging modality. Minimum two (2) years of experience in a leadership role.

Skills/Knowledge Meets and conforms to all the requirements in the Imaging position description.

Preferences

Experience: Previous experience in management.

Education: Advanced Degree in a related field, i.e., Nursing (BSN, MSN) or in Imaging.

Special Position Requirements

Exposure Category I: Expected duties have routine potential for exposure to blood, body fluids or tissues.

Other potential hazards: exposure to chemical, biological, and radioactive substances; possible exposure to hostile individuals.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK REQUIREMENTS

  1. Able to handle multiple priorities simultaneously.
  2. Effective oral and written communication skills, compliant with KHI vision, mission, and values.
  3. Able to manage technical business equipment i.e. phone, fax, computer etc.
  4. Able to assist with the movement/manipulation of a patient and equipment weighing up to and over 300 lbs.
  5. Able to care for patients with infectious diseases.
  6. Able to sit, stand, walk, and bend for the duration of the scheduled shift.
  7. Able to demonstrate concentration and visual and auditory acuity to watch monitors and follow instructions during exams.
