Department Overview

Gas Transmission and Distribution (T&D) is focused on delivering the safe and reliable flow of natural gas to our customers. Gas T&D is responsible for all aspects of PG&E’s gas transmission and distribution operations, including planning, engineering, maintenance, construction, restoration, and emergency response.

GC Spoils operates within Construction Services, along with Traffic Control and Paving, and supports all functional areas throughout the company. Spoils supervisors partner with project managers, construction managers, field engineers, Environmental Field Specialists, and field crews to efficiently manage dry and wet spoils and construction materials (e.g., base rock, drain rock, sand, cutback, etc.). GC Spoils supervisors oversee multiple yards in regions across the service territory.

The GC Spoils supervisor is directly accountable for safe and compliant operations, including management (receiving, screening, consolidating) of dry and wet surplus excavated material (spoils) resulting from construction operations. These spoils are subsequently sampled and characterized in accordance with applicable standards and procedures.

This position is a DOT (Department of Transportation) covered classification and is subject to random drug and/or alcohol screening.

Job Responsibilities

  • Drives safe and compliant operations every day
  • Leverages knowledge of regulatory requirements and drives environmental compliance
  • Leads union represented employees
  • Facilitates operating reviews
  • Performs go-sees and verifies work
  • Communicates in team meetings/tailboards and facilitates training
  • Supports the Recycled Dirt Giveaway and GC Mats programs
  • Partners with internal and contractor crews to solve problems, coordinates owned and rental assets, and leverages LEAN principles to maximize operational efficiency and reduce waste
  • Communicates business goals and objectives
  • Maintains documentation and prepares reports
  • Develops business knowledge and technical skills of field employees
  • Fosters partnership within the work group and across all company functions
  • Delivers work within scope, schedule, and cost expectations
  • Supports emergency response operations (including nights, weekends, holidays) as required by business need
  • Drives cost reduction efforts and maximizes efficiency by leveraging LEAN principles
  • Embraces innovation and breakthrough thinking
  • Monitors compliance with guidance documents to achieve high quality results
  • Develops action plans to address improvement opportunities and documents outcomes

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma
  • Experience in utility industry, 5 years
  • California driver license (Class C)
  • Ability to travel at least 50-percent of the time using personal vehicle (mileage reimbursement available) with occasional overnight stays
  • Ability to pass federally mandated pre-employment and random drug and alcohol testing
  • Ability to work on-call rotation

Desired:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Construction Management, Environmental discipline, or equivalent experience
  • Knowledge of environmental regulatory framework (federal, state, local) and experience with waste sampling, characterization, transportation, disposal
  • Experience working in a highly regulated environment
  • Experience in customer service and stakeholder engagement
  • Experience leading union-represented workforce
