Additionally, we provide Functional Service Provider (FSP) Solutions, supporting our clients with scientific and technical expertise, acting as an extension of their team, coordinating all laboratory related needs, advising on strategies for lab data collection and providing end-to-end analytical and logistical solutions.
The Supervisor of Facilities and Safety is responsible for overseeing the maintenance, safety, and operational readiness of all facilities to ensure a safe, compliant, and efficient work environment. This role supervises facility operations, preventive maintenance programs, and workplace safety initiatives while ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and organizational standards. The Supervisor schedules, manages and coordinates contractors and vendors performing building projects, renovations, repairs, and other facility-related services, ensuring work is completed on time, within budget, and in accordance with safety and quality requirements. This position also conducts inspections, addresses safety concerns, responds to emergency situations, and collaborates with internal stakeholders to support operational needs and continuous improvement. Partners with the Director, Global Facilities & Safety to oversee coordination of building space allocation and layout. Serves as liaison between the company and local municipalities and agencies related to facilities activities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Supervises facilities team and contractors.
• Ensure compliance with regulations and laws as applicable to facilities and safety efforts.
• Guarantees timely communication across multiple levels of the organization on facilities and / or safety related issues and/or to gain appropriate approvals when needed.
• Negotiate service contracts and manage these contracts to ensure the expected level of service is being received.
• Reports safety data on a weekly and /or monthly basis as requested or required.
• Ensures the proper operation and maintenance of security systems and equipment, including control card access, surveillance, fire alarm, and other systems.
• Works with security consultant to assess effectiveness of the security function, and recommend upgrades, repairs, and system improvements.
• Identifies and oversees new work processes and the improved utilization of human and material resources within the assigned or related functions or groups; facilitates others' participation in the continuous improvement program; investigates and solves problems that impact work processes and personnel within or across units or department.
• Regularly inspect buildings, sites and equipment for needed repair/maintenance.
• Respond as on/call for all emergencies.
• Ensure execution of facilities maintenance operating procedures.
• Source local services and goods needed to perform day to day operations through 3rd party suppliers via the agencies’ approved vendors.
• Maintain Safety and Security programs for Clients/Employees/Staff. These programs include access control and alarm systems, employee identification, visitor access, etc.
• Provides oversight and ownership for intrusion detection and response.
• Performs other related duties and tasks as necessary or as assigned.
Education and Experience
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Environmental Health and Safety or similar discipline preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years’ security and/or safety work experience in large, rapid growth site(s); including a minimum of three (3) years in people supervision or management experience in the security/safety field.
• Experience working in a regulated environment required.
• Prior knowledge or experience in contracting and/or negotiating required.
Skills and Ability
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
• Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
• Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including word processing and spreadsheets.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
• Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
• Experienced leader with demonstrated leadership skills.
• Six Sigma certification preferred.
• Working knowledge of police, fire, medical, and other emergency service provider procedures in responding to emergency incidents.
Supervisory Responsibilities: Team Lead or Supervisor
Physical Demands:
• Walk facility grounds, climb stairs, and access mechanical rooms, rooftops, and maintenance areas 75% of the week. Climb ladders as needed.
• Stand, bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, and reach with hands and arms 50% of the week.
• Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Regular use of hands and arms to operate tools, equipment, computers, and mobile devices.
• Visual ability is required to inspect equipment, read gauges, work orders, drawings, and digital screens.
• Occasional exposure to varying indoor and outdoor temperatures, noise levels, dust, and mechanical environments.
• May be required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Required to operate a motor vehicle to travel between facilities or respond to site emergencies.
