Transmission System Planning Leadership is responsible for all functions supporting the short- and long-term planning of PG&E’s transmission system. Leadership oversees and is responsible for assessment, including annual planning in conjunction with California Independent System Operator (CAISO) procedures and standards; regional planning, including the production of system base cases used for analysis in the internal assessment process as well as in external forums; and interconnection, including studies for generation and load interconnects to the transmission system.


PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, collective bargaining agreements, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E’s discretionary incentive compensation programs.

A reasonable salary range is:
Bay Area Minimum: $155,000
Bay Area Mid-Point: $210,000
Bay Area Maximum: $265,000
&/OR
CA Minimum: $147,000
CA Mid-Point: $200,000
CA Maximum: $252,000

This position is hybrid. You will work from your remote office and your assigned location based on business needs. The headquarters is the Oakland General Office.

Job Responsibilities

• Provides team leadership, technical oversight, and tracking for the assigned function of transmission planning (may be Assessment, Regional Planning, or Interconnection) by reviewing team outputs and maintaining current knowledge of the system areas.
• Provides representation on transmission issues for external stakeholders.
• Keeps upper management up to date regularly regarding transmission grid/asset planning processes.
• Stays abreast of applicable requirements, standards, tariffs, and system models.
• Reviews load interconnection and generation interconnect studies and approves them before they are finalized and handed over to external agencies.
• Coordinates with internal groups such as Substation and T-Line Engineering, Protection Engineering, and Energy Generation Interconnection on project developments and interconnection issues.
• Develops transmission planning reports such as the Assessment Study Report or the Transmission Grid Expansion Plan.
• Develops and maintains relationships with counterparts at the following external organizations: California Independent System Operator (CAISO), Western Electricity Coordinating Council (WECC), municipal utilities, generators, neighboring utilities, and others as required.
• Supervise employees to accomplish results through effective training & development, coaching, and rewards and recognition.

Qualifications

Minimum:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent related experience.
• 5 years of experience developing transmission plans.

Desired:

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with a focus on Power Systems.
• P.E.
• Proficient in written and oral communication skills.
• Leadership and presentation skills.
• Interpersonal, influence, and collaboration skills.
• Electrical Engineering knowledge with a focus on Power Systems
• Familiarity with GE’s PSLF tool or similar load flow computer models

Supplemental Minimum:

Travel approximately 15% with occasional overnight stays.
