Supervises a team responsible for the reliable and efficient operation of the ERCOT Day-Ahead Market (DAM) in accordance with ERCOT Protocols, Operating Guides, and market procedures. Oversees daily market execution activities, market validation, operational readiness, issue resolution, stakeholder communications, and implementation of market enhancements affecting DAM processes. Coordinates with internal departments, Market Participants, vendors, and regulatory stakeholders to ensure accurate market operations and timely communication of market outcomes.
Provides leadership and technical expertise regarding DAM operations, market systems, protocol interpretation, and market design initiatives. Supports strategic improvements to DAM processes and systems while ensuring compliance with ERCOT market rules and stakeholder expectations. Provides leadership during emergency operations and supports the implementation of protocol and market rule changes impacting the Day-Ahead Market.

JOB DUTIES

  • Responsible for hiring, coaching, training, and performance management of staff.
  • Schedules work assignments and manages daily operational priorities.
  • Reviews and approves staff timesheets and leave requests.
  • Oversees daily Day-Ahead Market operations, ensuring market timelines and deliverables are completed accurately and on schedule.
  • Supervises the validation and publication of Day-Ahead Market results, including energy awards, Ancillary Service awards, congestion impacts, and associated market outputs.
  • Leads and coordinates investigation and resolution of DAM operational issues, market anomalies, and system performance concerns.
  • Coordinates with IT, Operations, Market Analysis & Validation, Network Modeling, Settlements, Credit, and other ERCOT departments to support DAM-related activities and initiatives.
  • Ensures compliance with ERCOT Protocols, Operating Guides, business procedures, and market rules related to DAM operations.
  • Evaluates market outcomes and operational performance to identify process improvements, system enhancements, and opportunities for increased market efficiency.
  • Leads readiness activities and oversees testing, implementation, and operational readiness activities for DAM system releases, protocol revisions, NPRRs, SCRs, and market enhancements. While ensuring business processes, procedures, and systems are aligned with stakeholder-approved requirements.
  • Reviews and approves business requirements, operational procedures, test plans, and documentation associated with DAM systems and processes.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert for Day-Ahead Market operations and provides guidance to internal stakeholders, Market Participants, regulatory agencies, and ERCOT committees.
  • Supports stakeholder engagement activities, including preparation and review of presentations, reports, and responses related to DAM operations.
  • Monitors key operational metrics and develops reporting to support management decision-making and market transparency.
  • Coordinates Day-Ahead Market activities with Real-Time Market, Congestion Revenue Rights (CRR), and Settlements functions to ensure consistent market operations, accurate market outcomes, and effective issue resolution across market systems and processes.
  • Provides operational leadership and readiness support during emergency conditions, grid reliability events, and abnormal system operations affecting Day-Ahead Market execution.
  • Develops and maintains comprehensive knowledge of ERCOT market systems, market operations, system integrations, and industry trends.
  • Identifies and implements best practices to improve operational effectiveness, market performance, and customer service.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE

  • Requires minimum 5 years job related work experience and 1 year in a leadership role preferred in excess of degree requirements. Minimum years of job related experience can include time in leadership roles.
  • Knowledgeable in the modeling of transmission systems, energy markets, utility operations, and/or LMP markets.
  • Prior experience supervising or leading a team or projects preferred
  • Experience in wholesale energy markets, electric utility operations, power systems, or related industry experience.
  • Experience with organized electricity markets, market operations, market analysis, or energy scheduling processes preferred.
  • Supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with business applications and data analysis tools such as SQL, Python, Excel, Power BI, or similar tools preferred.
  • Knowledge of ERCOT Protocols, market design, and wholesale market operations preferred.

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor's Degree Electrical Engineering, Technology, Business Administration, Mathematics, Economics, or related discipline (Required)
  • or a combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge to a major in such fields is required

WORK LOCATION:

  • There are requirements in this role that will be required to be performed on-site. It is estimated that your business area will require this position to be on-site at least (2) days per week. Circumstances and business needs may require you to be on-site more often. On-site requirements are at the discretion of Management.
  • Remote work schedules shall be performed within Texas. Log-ins during out of state business travel, and any temporary remote work arrangements that have been submitted and approved in Workday by HR.

$144,000 - $198,000
