Johnson & Johnson is recruiting a supervisor for its CAR-T hub in Europe. The position will be based in Beerse, Belgium.

CAR-T (chimeric antigen receptor T-cell therapy) is an innovative approach to eliminate cancer cells, which works by harnessing the power of a patient’s own immune system. They are created from the patients’ own T-cells and are engineered to eliminate cancer cells expressing a specific antigen.

The Supervisor CAR-T Cryopreservation oversees day-to-day planning and operational activities for the central Cryopreservation Center (cCPC) for CAR-T in Beerse, ensuring both productivity and GTP compliance while managing a team of Medical Technologists Cryopreservation (lab technicians). The Supervisor CAR-T Cryopreservation shows warmhearted leadership skills, and leads the team with empathy, integrity and authenticity. He or she carries out duties in compliance with applicable regulations, guidelines, and company policies and procedures.

Leadership:

  • Lead a team of Medical Technologists Cryopreservation by supporting, coaching and developing them in reaching business, quality and personal objectives
  • Proactively and continuously monitor and challenge the organizational performance, and develop and implement improvements
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with business and quality partners to ensure alignment of objectives and deliverables

People management:

  • Manages a team of Medical Technologists Cryopreservation in terms of assigned work, direction, coaching and development. This includes performance review, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints and resolving conflict
  • Evaluate people performance and provide opportunities for growth
  • Maintain individual training completion in a compliant state
  • Contribute to the interviewing and hiring process

Operational performance:

  • Together with the Facility Lead Cryopreservation, set priorities and manage work assignments
  • Lead daily TIER 1 meetings, and daily production & team planning. As such, also act as first line support in case of operational issues or questions
  • Ensure operational efficiency to meet production targets, while maintaining the required level of quality and accuracy
  • Update/review/approve documents as a department subject matter expert (SME)
  • Support laboratory investigations, CAPAs and change controls
  • Organize housekeeping activities for the laboratory (eg. stock replenishment, cleaning, equipment maintenance, etc.) to ensure maximum availability of infrastructure, materials and equipment
  • Participate to the production process by performing at least 1 cryo run/week, and as back-up when needed (eg. illness or absence of team members)
  • Support internal and external audits
  • Maintains detailed knowledge of industry guidelines/trends and regulatory requirements, while remaining current in on-the-job training requirements.
  • Collaborates with Quality Assurance, Manufacturing, Technical Operations, Engineering and Maintenance to support business needs.
  • Perform tasks in a manner consistent with the safety policies, quality systems and cGxP requirements

Experience and Skills:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor Degree in Engineering, Science or equivalent technical discipline is required
  • A minimum of 5 years of work experience is required, incl. prior laboratory experience
  • A prior supervisory experience is required, with a preference of min. 3 years of proven experience
  • Detailed knowledge and understanding of Good Tissue Practices (GTP) or Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) to identify/remediate gaps in processes or systems is required
  • Prior experience in cell and gene therapy is preferred
  • Prior experience in aseptic processing of human cells or blood products is a plus
  • Empathy, integrity and authenticity are key for this role
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work in a team-based, fast-paced environment
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proficient with using Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Excel, Word, and Powerpoint) is required
  • Candidates must be able to accommodate a shift schedule, in particular evening work and remote stand-by as required by clinical / commercial demand

The anticipated base pay range for this position is:

€72,500.00 - €115,230.00
