The Accounting Supervisor is a high-volume, hands-on role responsible for day-to-day oversight of MEGPL (Marathon Equatorial Guinea Production Limited) technical accounting functions supporting the Equatorial Guinea Business Unit. The role provides leadership across external audits, national payroll, monthly financial close activities, statutory compliance, and financial reporting accuracy.

This position offers the opportunity to lead through partnership with local and Houston-based stakeholders, support employee development through mentoring and coaching, and help strengthen accounting processes, controls, and reporting as business needs evolve.

The candidate will coordinate with internal and external stakeholders on audits and compliance, support core accounting activities, and help ensure MEGPL accounting deliverables are accurate, compliant, and completed with high ethical standards. Key stakeholders include MEGPL leadership, Corporate Finance, Legal and Tax, EG Government, working interest partners, and external accounting firms.

Rotational role located in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea - 5 weeks on and 5 weeks off

Your responsibilities may include:

  • Conduct MEGPL business with the highest ethical standards
  • Lead coordination of EG Government, Partner, and Alba Plant statutory audits, including support packages, responses, accruals, and reporting accuracy
  • Supervise national payroll activities for 400+ employees, ensuring compliance with HR policies, local tax requirements, and labor laws
  • Support monthly close, financial reporting, and implementation of accounting standards, procedures, and management requirements
  • Ensure compliance with statutory, tax, operational reporting, production sharing contracts, and other major agreements
  • Support nationalization efforts through mentoring and coaching of national employees
  • Maintain effective internal controls and drive process improvements as business needs change
  • Collaborate effectively across culturally diverse teams, functions, partners, and external parties
  • Use strong analytical skills and attention to detail to improve accuracy, compliance, and decision support
  • Develop others through coaching, knowledge sharing, and inclusive leadership

Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Accounting, Finance, or a similar field or foreign equivalent
  • 10 or more years of experience in oil and gas accounting
  • Intermediate level of proficiency with common accounting and reporting tools, including S/4HANA, Oracle, Power BI, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • International oil and gas accounting experience
  • Experience supporting monthly close, financial reporting, audits, payroll, controls, or statutory compliance activities
  • Willing and able to work a rotational 5 weeks on and 5 weeks off schedule in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea

Preferred Requirements:

  • CPA or CA certification
  • Experience with an exploration and production company
  • Strong English oral and written communication skills
  • Basic Spanish knowledge
  • Demonstrated teamwork, analytical skills, attention to detail, ability to challenge the status quo, and ability to work in an ethically and culturally diverse environment

Physical Demands & Work Environment

This is a rotational office-based role located in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea. The role will require coordination across multiple time zones and interaction with local and Houston-based stakeholders.

  • Ability to work a rotational 5 weeks on and 5 weeks off schedule in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea
