Job Description

Position Summary

NextCare is seeking a Texas-licensed Physician (MD/DO) to join our urgent care team while also serving as a Supervising Physician for Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) within the Texas market.

This opportunity is ideal for a physician who enjoys urgent care medicine and is comfortable providing clinical guidance and oversight to an experienced APP team. The physician may supervise/delegate prescriptive authority to up to seven eligible APPs, consistent with applicable Texas requirements and NextCare policies.

Our physicians enjoy flexible scheduling, no traditional inpatient call, no after-hours charting expectations, and the opportunity to practice in a fast-paced but generally low-acuity environment.

Supervising Physician Responsibilities

  • Serve as supervising/delegating physician for assigned Texas APPs in accordance with Texas Medical Board requirements and NextCare policies
  • Maintain appropriate prescriptive authority agreements and supervisory/delegation relationships
  • Provide clinical consultation and guidance to APPs when questions or complex cases arise
  • Remain accessible to assigned APPs as required for appropriate clinical support
  • Participate in required chart review, quality review, meetings, or other supervisory activities
  • Support evidence-based practice and adherence to NextCare clinical standards
  • Provide coaching and clinical guidance when appropriate
  • Collaborate with medical and operational leadership to support quality patient care
  • Maintain all required documentation and registrations associated with the supervisory relationship

Schedule & Practice Model

NextCare clinics generally operate 8:00 AM–8:00 PM, seven days per week. Clinical schedules are built around 12-hour shifts and include rotating weekend and holiday coverage based on employment status and market needs.

Physicians are supported by experienced clinical teams, APPs, operational leadership, and medical leadership. Supervising physicians do not need to be physically present with an APP at all times, but must meet applicable Texas requirements for availability and communication.

Required Qualifications

  • MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school
  • Active, unrestricted Texas medical license
  • Board certified or board eligible in Family Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Internal Medicine/Pediatrics, or another applicable specialty

  • Strong urgent care procedural skills
  • EHR proficiency
  • Willingness and eligibility to serve as a supervising/delegating physician for Texas APPs
  • Ability to maintain required Texas Medical Board supervisory and prescriptive delegation requirements
  • Willingness to work occasional weekends and holidays as applicable
  • DOT certification or willingness to obtain

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous urgent care, emergency medicine, or fast-track experience
  • Previous experience supervising or collaborating with PAs and NPs
  • Experience with APP mentorship and clinical development

  • Experience with initial x-ray and EKG interpretation
  • Occupational medicine experience
