The County of Riverside - Riverside University Health System (RUHS)-Medical Center is seeking a Supervising Pharmacy Technician for the Correctional Health Services - Pharmacy, located in Moreno Valley and traveling to various Correctional Health Facilities.

Under the direction of the Pharmacy Director or designee, incumbents are responsible for the supervision, staff development and assessment of staff competency for Pharmacy Technicians, trainees and support staff; manage daily scheduling of technicians and support staff duty assignments; provide administrative and technical support; aid in resource allocation; perform investigation and review of medication use processes; participate in quality assurance activities; performs other related duties as required.

The Supervising Pharmacy Technician is the supervisory level classification in the Pharmacy Technician series and reports to the Pharmacy Director, Assistant Pharmacy Director or the Supervising Clinical Pharmacist. This class is characterized by the responsibility of oversight of the day-to-day operations of a key function to a department. Incumbents may participate in the employee selection process, training, coaching, and mentoring of employees.

The Supervising Pharmacy Technician differs from the subordinate technicians in that they have more experience working as a pharmacy technician, functions in a supervisory role over the other technicians and trainees and provides administrative and technical support.

The most competitive candidates will have previous experience in high-volume retail and outpatient pharmacy settings and prior experience with correctional pharmacy systems such as CIPS, TechCare, and PARATA.

Work Schedule: Various shifts are available, including 5/8s and 4/10s, scheduled within pharmacy operating hours of 5:00 AM–7:30 PM. Weekend availability is required.

Examples of duties

• Responsible for and/or manage distributive pharmacy services which includes prescription and medication order processing, storage, preparing, and dispensing throughout the Medical Center under the supervision of a pharmacist.
• Assist in control of the inventory by performing maintenance functions, able to support procurement, technology and hardware including automated dispensing cabinets, and able to monitor inventory utilization reports.
• Supervise the activities of technicians, assistants and trainees; resolve issues arising from personnel; intervene as necessary to correct behavior and resolve employee conflicts.
• Facilitate the resolution of issues arising from pharmacy operations; support inter-departmental and intra-departmental work.
• Assist in the development and implementation of new policies and procedures.
• Participate in the development of workflow and schedule as requested; manage duty assignments.
• Work with Supervisors to identify areas of improvement and solutions through integration of Pharmacy resources.
• Responsible for staff development and assessment of staff competency for technicians and support staff.
• Participate on departmental and inter-departmental committees.
• Work with other members of the Medical Center to ensure a cooperative work environment.
• Act as a role model to all staff.

Qualifications

Education: Completion of a Pharmacy Technician training course in accordance with the California State Board of Pharmacy licensing requirements.

Experience: Five years as a pharmacy technician in a healthcare facility or community pharmacy of which two years must have been in a lead/leadership role.

License/Certificate:

Possession of a valid certificate of registration as a Pharmacy Technician issued by the California State Board of Pharmacy.
