The Transit Fleet and Facilities Maintenance branch provides safe, reliable, efficient, timely and cost-effective transit vehicle maintenance services to support federally regulated transit services within the City. The work involves planning, developing, managing, implementing, coordinating and monitoring transit vehicle maintenance activities; materials management and warranty activities; and engineering and technical support activities for vehicle maintenance, including reliability and quality process analysis.
You are responsible for the management and maintenance of all Transit buildings and grounds, excluding Rail facilities. You are responsible to plan, organize, coordinate and direct the maintenance, operation and repairs in the assigned facilities to keep each facility running efficiently by overseeing both personnel and equipment. You are expected to manage from a big-picture view, as well as dealing with the details, which affect the maintenance of the physical premises and the security of the people who do business there.
You must coordinate and integrate the activities of all operational systems within the facility for seamless efficiency and continually monitor the facility for compliance with safety, health and environmental regulations. You are also expected to find new ways of managing the facilities that reduce costs and improve efficiency, productivity and safety.
You provide input into operational, human resource and financial plans in alignment with Unit, Branch and Department objectives. You participate in the hiring/firing layoff/recall of staff, measure staff performance, coach/mentor/train/develop the work of staff, maintain discipline, and represent management at grievance proceedings and arbitrations as required. In addition, you manage the hiring and performance of external consultants and contractors.
Completion of 2 year community college diploma in Facilities Management or related field, such as General Business, Project Management or Human Resources Management
Minimum of 5 years of related experience in an operational and labour intensive, unionized transit environment, including 3 years in a supervisory capacity
