We are looking for a Superintendent Production for our Southern Mining Operations at Amrun, a world class asset, and the newest operation in the Rio Tinto Bauxite business.

Leading on the frontline is one of the most important jobs in our business. With it comes the responsibility to motivate, inspire and keep your people safe and well every day, every shift. Our Amrun Mining team is large and diverse and is growing as our southern operations expand. Your role will be key to continue to drive culture whilst safely meeting production targets.

Reporting to the Manager Operations Mining, you will:

• Ensure that all aspects of the Amrun mine meet health, safety and environmental regulatory, compliance and business values requirements.
• Providing representation of Weipa in customer and community relations and activities.
• Operations Optimisation: Maximize productivity, minimize costs, and reduce environmental impact in production operations.
• Strategic Planning: Develop and execute short and medium-term plans aligned with business strategy.
• Team Management: Define staffing needs, establish selection criteria, and identify development needs.
• Continuous Improvement: Identify, evaluate, and implement opportunities for improvement and best practices.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate closely with other functions to ensure seamless operations.
  

What you will bring

• A strong commitment to the safety of yourself and your team.
• Tertiary qualifications preferably within a related field.
• Leadership experience within mining or similar operational role.
• Ability to promote, mentor and drive a diverse way of thinking and ability to challenge the status quo.
• Project Management: Highly organized with excellent project management and problem-solving skills.
• Communication Skills: Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
• Legal Understanding: Familiarity with impactful mining and labor laws is advantageous.
• Leadership: Proven experience leading teams in challenging environments.

Where you will be working

Our Weipa operations in Far North Queensland includes three bauxite mines, processing facilities, shiploaders, an export wharf, two ports, power stations, a rail network and ferry terminals.

Amrun, our newest mine, was completed in 2018 and will extend our Weipa bauxite operations by decades, significantly building on our 55-year history on the Western Cape, and providing jobs and supporting business growth in the region. The mine is located on traditional land. We work closely with the Traditional Owners to implement our agreements, ensuring that the benefits generated from mining support future generations and that important cultural heritage sites are identified and preserved.
