
QUALIFICATION: This position requires knowledge of word processing techniques; command of the English language; proper office methods and practices, including record keeping, secretarial techniques, basic stenographic practices, letter and report writing; Kern High School District's general operations, polices, regulations and procedures.
Must possess the ability to understand and carry out both oral and written instructions; effectively and tactfully communicate in both oral and written forms; organize and prioritize work tasks and assignments effectively; operate standard office equipment, computer terminal and assigned software; successfully apply District rules, procedures and policies with good judgment while independently carrying out a variety of technical procedures; establish and maintain effective work relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties.
Must be able to establish and maintain efficient record keeping/filing systems and prepare routine reports; coordinate activity details and maintain schedules of events; analyze situations and take appropriate action regarding routine procedural matters without immediate supervision; perform mathematical calculations accurately; understand and carry out a variety of oral and written instructions ; type 60 net words per minute; take nonverbatim notes and minutes; deal effectively and diplomatically with the public and with school employees.
Must be able to gather and organize Board agenda items and backup documentation for review by
Superintendent; take minutes of various District meetings; prepare copies and distribute meeting minutes and agendas to appropriate parties; assemble and organize materials and data including specialized documents
and records as necessary; maintain both manual and computerized alphabetical index and cross-files; prepare invitations for District events and mail to individuals; prepare information packets for each invitee.
Three years secretarial experience is required, preferably involving considerable public contact.
A Recent typing certificate must accompany the application IN ORDER TO BE CONSIDERED.
A Criminal History check will be required of the Successful Candidate prior to Employment
DUTIES OF POSITION To perform a variety of responsible clerical support functions for the District Superintendent's Office. Employee in this classification receives supervision from the Administrative Assistant to the Board of Trustees and Superintendent within a framework of standard policies and procedures. This job classification requires attention to detail and communication skills as well as the ability to effectively work on a variety of projects within designated deadlines.
STARTING SALARY: $5,591.94 (monthly)
NUMBER OF MONTHS: 12 (to begin as soon as possible)
NUMBER OF HOURS: 8 (daily working hours 7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.)
