Ames Construction is seeking an experienced Heavy Civil Superintendent to oversee field operations on large-scale civil construction projects. This role is responsible for managing daily site activities, ensuring projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with quality standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and coordinate all field personnel, subcontractors, and construction activities
  • Plan and manage daily operations, including scheduling, manpower, equipment, and materials
  • Ensure compliance with all safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements
  • Monitor project progress and adjust plans as needed to meet deadlines and budgets
  • Collaborate with Project Managers, Engineers, and clients to ensure project success
  • Review plans, specifications, and submittals to ensure work is performed correctly
  • Conduct regular site inspections to maintain quality control standards
  • Lead and participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and jobsite briefings
  • Maintain accurate daily reports, logs, and documentation
  • Identify and resolve field issues proactively to minimize delays and cost impacts

Qualifications:

  • 5–10+ years of experience in heavy civil construction (earthwork, structures, utilities, paving, etc.)
  • Proven experience in a Superintendent or leadership role
  • Strong knowledge of construction methods, equipment, and safety practices
  • Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, and schedules
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills
  • OSHA 30 certification preferred
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel as required

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience with DOT, municipal, or large infrastructure projects
  • Background working with unions and managing union labor
  • Familiarity with project management and scheduling software

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Ability to walk on uneven terrain and stand for extended periods
  • Ability to lift to 50 pounds as needed
