Gibraltar Mine is seeking a Superintendent, Environment to lead site-wide environmental management, monitoring, and regulatory compliance programs. This role is responsible for ensuring that environmental obligations are met while supporting operational excellence and proactive environmental stewardship.

The Superintendent will oversee environmental monitoring programs, regulatory reporting, audits, and permitting support, while providing leadership to a multidisciplinary environmental team. This position plays a key role in regulator engagement and maintaining Gibraltar’s strong environmental performance record.


Core Responsibilities

  • Act as a visible safety and environmental leader, promoting compliance and accountability across the site.
  • Ensure compliance with all environmental permits, approvals, and regulatory requirements (provincial and federal).
  • Oversee surface water, groundwater, hydrometric, ML/ARD, air quality, reclamation, and environmental monitoring programs.
  • Lead preparation and review of annual, quarterly, and monthly environmental reports.
  • Maintain and continuously improve the Environmental Management System (EMS).
  • Lead regulatory inspections, audits, and agency engagement activities.
  • Manage environmental data systems and ensure data quality and traceability.
  • Support environmental aspects of mine planning, capital projects, and operational changes.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop environmental coordinators, technicians, and contractors.

Education & Experience

  • Degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, or related discipline.
  • Professional designation (P.Eng., P.Geo, RPBio, or equivalent) preferred.
  • Minimum 8–10 years of progressive environmental experience, preferably in mining or heavy industry.
  • Strong working knowledge of BC mining and environmental legislation.
  • Proven experience managing regulatory reporting and environmental teams.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • High standard of technical writing and regulatory communication.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with operations, engineering, and external stakeholders.
  • Proficient with environmental databases, Microsoft Office, and GIS tools.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety, environmental protection, and continuous improvement.
