Job Description

About the Company

Our client is a 100% employee-owned construction company that invests in its people and their long-term success. Through its Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP), employees share in the company's growth and receive an additional ownership retirement account, with shares awarded annually.

The company offers a collaborative work environment where experienced construction professionals can take ownership of their work, develop their leadership skills, and contribute to successful projects while building a stake in the organization's future.

About the Position

Our client is seeking an experienced Construction Superintendent to oversee earthwork construction projects in the Topsham, Maine area. This role is responsible for coordinating field operations, supervising crews, managing resources, and ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently, and to established quality standards.

Project scope, complexity, and crew size will vary, requiring a hands-on leader who can adapt to changing jobsite demands. The Superintendent will work closely with the General Superintendent, Project Managers, subcontractors, and other onsite contractors to coordinate schedules, allocate resources, and maintain project progress.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise daily earthwork construction activities, ensuring the safe and efficient operation of personnel and equipment.
  • Lead, train, and support field employees to meet project objectives, productivity expectations, quality standards, and established timelines.
  • Coordinate with the General Superintendent, Project Managers, subcontractors, and other contractors to develop and maintain project schedules.
  • Plan and allocate crews, materials, equipment, and other resources based on project requirements and workforce availability.
  • Coordinate jobsite activities around existing underground utilities and other site-specific conditions.
  • Read and interpret construction plans, specifications, and drawings to guide field execution.
  • Perform project layout and assist with survey-related field activities.
  • Calculate material quantities, order supplies, and determine completed quantities for payment purposes.
  • Conduct and participate in project meetings to communicate progress, resolve field issues, and coordinate upcoming work.
  • Maintain clear communication with employees and project stakeholders regarding schedules, expectations, and jobsite needs.
  • Complete required project documentation, reports, and other administrative paperwork.
  • Support additional field operations as needed to keep projects on schedule and operating effectively.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of construction supervisory experience, preferably in heavy civil construction, earthwork, site development, or utility construction.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA standards and workplace safety requirements. OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification is preferred; training may be provided for the right candidate.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead crews, manage jobsites, and maintain productivity, safety, and quality.
  • Strong understanding of construction methods, heavy equipment, scheduling, and project sequencing.
  • Experience coordinating subcontractors, vendors, and other project stakeholders.
  • Experience with DOT, municipal, or commercial site construction projects is preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, construction drawings, specifications, and project plans.
  • Experience with Topcon GPS survey equipment is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Bluebeam Revu, CAD software, Microsoft Office, and Microsoft Project is preferred.

Benefits

  • Starting salary of $80,000 annually, adjusted based on experience and knowledge.
  • Full-time, year-round employment.
  • Company truck for business use and travel.
  • Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP), including an ownership retirement account with additional shares awarded annually.
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance.
  • 401(k) retirement plan with company match.
  • Company-paid life and disability insurance.
  • Paid time off (PTO).
  • Paid vacation and holidays.
  • Boot reimbursement.
  • Opportunity to build a long-term career with an employee-owned construction company.
