The Recreation, Cultural and Facility Services department is responsible for building a healthy, inclusive and vibrant City, as well as ensuring that communities, residents and visitors have access to the recreation and cultural places, programs, events and services that allow them to experience all the benefits the City has to offer, and overseeing Buildings and Facilities Management for improved service delivery integration, ensuring the best possible client experience in City facilities.
Under the guidance of a Coordinator, you direct the day-to-day operation of an Inclusive Recreation Unit camp, working with children, youth, or adults with special needs in a therapeutic recreational or social skills summer camp. You are included in the child/youth staff ratio and are responsible for direct client care and intervention, program adaptation and daily staff management to ensure a safe and enjoyable camp experience for all registered at camp. Work is performed in accordance with related legislation, policies, procedures, and guidelines.
Note: minimum age of 16 years is required for this Summer Student job.
Post-Secondary Student (completion of second year college or university) - Recreation, Childcare/Youth Worker, Kinesiology, or Physical Education
Note: Student must be returning to school in the fall
2 years or more of related experience is required
Current Standard First Aid, CPR-C and AED certificatesAODA Accessibility/IASR TrainingCrisis Prevention/Intervention training certificateAlternative Communication Systems (ASL- American Sign Language) training is desirableErgonomic Lifts and Transfers training is an asset
