Staff Non-exemptThe Summer Library Assistant will primarily work on library projects both individually and with members of a team. Up to 1-2 hours of each day may be spent providing customer service to patrons at the Library Services Desk. Library Services Desk staffing entails all aspects of circulating library materials using the library’s online circulation module. This position provides basic directional assistance to patrons regarding the library and campus, helps patrons search the online library catalog, and answers the desk telephones.
Job Duties:
You will report to the Library Services Desk Assistant.
Core Material Handling & Organization: Arrange returned circulating materials on book trucks. Accurately reshelve library materials in the stacks. Collect and prepare in-house used books for reshelving. Verify the accuracy of book placement (shelf reading). Perform shifts of collection sections as needed. Perform inventories of assorted collections.
Patron Support & Retrieval: Search for missing or mis-shelved items requested by patrons. Visit faculty offices to assist with book returns and renewals.
Facility & Documentation Maintenance: Clean out lockers and study carrels, and verify key functionality. Edit library documentation, photocopy documents, and collate.
Processing Materials: Print spine labels, stamp and add security strips to new books for library's collection. Conduct repairs on old books by adding glue, adhesive tape and other assorted tools.
Withdrawing Items: Access WorldCat to delete our local holding records for books marked to be withdrawn from collection. stamp books for withdrawal and place them back on wooden book trucks.
Non Essential Functions: The job description's listed responsibilities and tasks are not exhaustive, additional non-essential tasks and responsibilities may be assigned as needed.

This is a 3 month summer position (May 2026 Through August 2026).
20-30 hours a week, non-exempt (hourly), non benefits eligible job based in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania.
Willing to work until 5:00pm 1-2 days a week.
Demonstrated ability to understand oral and written instructions.
Customer service oriented.
Computer and software knowledge including word processing, spreadsheet, and email.
Detail oriented and demonstrated ability to take initiative.
Demonstrated ability to effectively work independently as well as part of a team.
Willingness to work scheduled shifts and arrive on time.
Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusiveness.
Ability to bend, kneel, stoop, push, pull and reach above and below shoulders.
Ability to move objects (books and boxes of books) up to 25 pounds unassisted.
Ability to climb and work on stools and ladders.

The offer rate will be based on a review of the candidate's credentials compared to the qualifications of the position, internal equity, and our overall compensation philosophy.
This role is not budgeted for visa sponsorship, all candidates must be authorized to work in the US without a need for current or future visa sponsorship.
