This summer internship provides an exciting opportunity to support the UK Agri-Tech Centre's Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA) team at Stockbridge Technology Centre, York. Working across our Glasshouse and Vertical Farming facilities, the successful candidate will assist with the delivery of research, commercial, and grant-funded projects through hands-on trial support and data collection and recording activities.
Key responsibilities will include supporting crop trial activities, such as collecting and recording experimental data, assisting with facility operations, and contributing to the successful delivery of ongoing CEA projects. The role offers valuable experience in applied agricultural research and technology validation within a fast-paced innovation environment.
This position is ideal for a student or recent graduate with an interest in horticulture, crop science, agri-tech, or controlled environment agriculture, looking to gain practical experience in a leading agri-tech research setting.
The role is available immediately and will be based onsite at Stockbridge Technology Centre for a minimum of 3-days per week, for a period of 6-8 weeks depending upon start date.
Due to the location of the site and limited public transport options, candidates must be able to travel reliably to and from the workplace.
Key responsibilities
- Work with onsite team to collect trial data in a range of glasshouse and vertically farmed crops (e.g. strawberry, tomato)
- Transcribe and collate existing historical datasets
- Support trial information/data organisation and documentation
- Data analysis/visualisation as required (with suitable support/instruction given by team)
- Follow onsite H&S procedures and instruction from onsite team
- Data, evidence and information is generated to a high quality and standard
- Liaise and coordinate with colleagues and partners for day-to-day activities
What we are looking for
- Numerically literate and able to work with Microsoft suite and data software (e.g. MS Excel)
- Ability to work in glasshouse and CEA environments for long periods of time, with suitable support and training
- Team player, self-motivated, reliable
- Strong communication skills
- Excellent IT skills and proficient with Microsoft environments
- Full UK driving licence
