Job Description

Technology Development teams drive aluminium product, process and casting innovation, supporting operations and customers through advanced laboratory, pilot-scale and digital capabilities. Our R&D Centers are located in Sunndalsøra, Karmøy and Cassopolis, Michigan, USA.
We work closely with production plants, customers and research partners to solve industrial challenges and develop future aluminium solutions. Key focus areas include process optimization and decarbonization.
As a summer intern, you will work alongside experienced researchers and technicians on real industrial projects, gaining hands-on experience with research, testing, analysis and technology development in an international R&D environment.

You will also be part of Hydro’s summer internship program, allowing you to build your network, learn more about our business, and collaborate with students from different disciplines.

What you will be doing

  • Assist in pilot testing of plasma burner technology at Hydro Reference Center.
  • Analyze experimental data and support modelling activities.
  • Completement the experimental operations with modelling.

What will make you successful?

  • Master student in Physics, Metallurgy, Materials Science, Process Engineering or similar.
  • Interest in modelling, data analysis and industrial process development.
  • Programming skills in Python or similar tools are an advantage.
  • Familiarity with computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and industrial scale process models is a plus but not mandatory
  • Structured, curious and motivated to solve real industrial challenges.
