Metal Sourcing & Trading (MST) is a business unit within Primary Metal Commercial and is responsible for the optimization of the Hydro’s global standard ingot portfolio and the management of LME price risk exposure on behalf of the company. The group consists of two trading departments, risk department, finance department, market analysis department and contract administration department. Trading results are reported on MST’s bottom line. We are looking for an intern with keen interest in financial and commodity markets.
This is a unique opportunity to learn more about the intricate world of commodities at the sole metals trading desk in Norway. With an internship at our department, you will learn more about commodities in general and the forces driving these markets. How are commodities related to our everyday life and how will demand develop in the future? More specifically you will learn a lot about aluminium, which in our humble opinion is the most attractive of metals. How will the green transition influence the demand for aluminium? How will Trumps tariffs influence the global metal flows? In a time of increased uncertainty, we also experience increased volatility in the financial markets. How can we leverage the technical competences we have to gain an advantage in the financial market? With an internship in our department, you will get the opportunity to develop new trading strategies in Python. You will learn how to code and deploy a functioning algorithm that will remain in operation after your internship is finished. If your interests lie within the field of machine learning and artificial intelligence, you will also get the opportunity to explore how we can leverage this technology even more than we do today. In total, this is an internship for someone who is looking to learn more about the world of commodities, develop their technical competence and experience everyday working life at a trading desk in one of Norway’s largest companies.
An internship in Hydro is a great way for you to try out and learn more about your field of study. You will obtain valuable experience, and you get to tackle relevant tasks and real challenges, with support from experienced colleagues. You will also get to participate in a joint program with all the Hydro summer interns, allowing you to learn more about our business and acquire interdisciplinary knowledge. All the while, we expect and want you to have a fun experience during the summer.
You will be responsible for: Robotics and automation within trading, finance and risk. Developing and deploying technical trading models. Working with analysis of different aspects of the aluminium market. Learning as much as possible while you are working with us.
At Hydro, we believe diversity makes us stronger. We welcome diverse experiences and perspectives, and invite all qualified candidates to apply. We review every application fairly and strive to provide equal opportunities for everyone to grow and succeed.
