Requisition Summary

The Control Systems Test Engineering Intern will perform hands-on testing of vehicle systems using Hardware-In-the-Loop (HIL) benches. The intern will work with PTC test engineers to ensure test cases verify system requirements, then execute test cases. Results analysis and reporting will follow. Duties will also include ensuring HIL benches are configured with project-specific hardware and software, and ensuring HIL bench architecture is representative of the vehicle architecture under test.


The PACCAR Summer Internship Program provides an opportunity to learn about PACCAR through a work assignment as a Control Systems Engineer. Each intern will be integrated into division and department meetings, activities and events to ensure an understanding of PACCAR and our truck brands Kenworth, Peterbilt and DAF. The Paccar Technical Center is a state-of-the-art facility dedicated to the development and validation of emerging technologies such as vehicle electrification and autonomous driving systems. Work with professional engineers on hands-on projects and learn state of the art technologies! The Paccar Technical Center is located in scenic Mt. Vernon, Washington north of Seattle and south of Vancouver, British Columbia.



Job Functions / Responsibilities

  • Work with PTC engineers to design test cases which verify system requirements are met
  • Configure HIL benches for testing
  • Use HIL benches to execute test cases as defined in test plan
  • Analyze test results and report findings
  • Automate test cases where applicable using PTC’s in-house automation application
  • Post process test results to ensure quality of automation tools
  • Identify root cause of issues, address software tool defects, and develop repair strategies alongside PTC engineers
  • Review existing software tool documentation and assist in developing documentation
  • Maintain excellent communication, establish cooperative and productive work relations with other working groups
  • Local travel in the Puget Sound area up to 10%

Qualifications & Skills

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or post-graduate program
  • Junior or higher standing toward an engineering or computer science degree
  • Fundamental knowledge of Python, Java, C++, or C#
  • Familiar with software development methodologies
  • Experience working with basic circuits and electrical wiring a plus
  • Ability to work well in a team environment
