About the Role

This Summer Intern position provides talented, high potential college student(s) an opportunity to join Matson as a Summer Intern in the field of Business Administration/Management, with emphasis in Project Management or related field. Matson’s 8 week full-time internship program offers students an opportunity to gain experience working on professional level projects and “hands-on” challenges while earning a competitive salary. You will be provided with coaching and mentoring by employees who are committed to helping you develop your technical skills, network with business professionals, and explore future career opportunities.

What you’ll do:

  • Compile summary of hired trucking company rates for Matson.
  • Produce weekly reports for containers/chassis:
    • Out in the community,
    • Remaining in the yard, and
    • Aged units overall.
  • Provide timely updates in Matson operating system for tracking of conventional cargo movements.
  • Update container seal corrections listing to include port or origin for the last 6 months.
  • Provide daily count of chassis inventory at off dock facilities, awaiting maintenance, inspection, and return to service.
  • Compile and conduct seal corrections as needed on a daily basis.
  • Other duties as assigned.

In addition to those essential job functions identified above, individuals in this position are also responsible for performing other duties or tasks that may be assigned. The Company retains the discretion to add to or change the essential job functions of this position at any time.

You have these skills:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite – Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Problem analysis and problem resolution at a functional level.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • A strong team player aligned with Matson values – integrity, accountability, teamwork, sense of community, safety, and environment.
  • Good time management, organization, administrative skills.

Physical Requirements:

  • Sitting 50 minutes per hour
  • Walking 20 minutes per hour
  • Standing 20 minutes per hour
  • Lifting 30 lbs.

And these qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited college, university, or vocational program.
  • Complete at least one academic term prior to the internship start date.
