Seasonal Contract – 42.5 to 44 hours per week. Hours of work are primarily Monday to Friday daytime, with some evenings and weekends required.

NATURE & SCOPE

The Site Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day operation of a single YMCA Day Camp site, providing direct leadership to camp staff and ensuring a safe, inclusive, and engaging experience for campers. The role ensures compliance with YMCA Child & Youth Safety and Protection Policies, Ontario Camps Association standards, and YMCA Health and Safety requirements.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Program & Site Operations

• Oversee the daily operation of a YMCA Day Camp site, ensuring safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate programming.
• Implement camp schedules, activities, and routines in alignment with YMCA Day Camp standards and direction from senior leadership.
• Support site set-up, daily operations, and end-of-season site closing requirements.

Staff Supervision & Leadership

• Provide direct supervision, coaching, and ongoing feedback to camp counsellors and site staff.
• Support onboarding and site-level training, modeling YMCA values and expected behaviours.
• Participate in mid-summer and end-of-summer performance evaluations in collaboration with the Regional Supervisor.
• Address day-to-day staff concerns and escalate performance, attendance, or conduct issues as required.

Camper Safety & Risk Management

• Ensure compliance with YMCA Child & Youth Safety and Protection Policies, Ontario Camps Association standards, and YMCA Health and Safety requirements.
• Maintain appropriate staff-to-camper ratios and consistent supervision practices.
• Respond to incidents, injuries, and behavioural concerns, completing required documentation and notifying senior leadership.

Family Communication & Engagement

• Act as the primary on-site contact for parents/guardians regarding daily camp operations.
• Communicate professionally and in a timely manner regarding camper needs, incidents, or concerns.
• Foster a welcoming, inclusive, and respectful camp environment for campers and families.

Leadership & Professional Expectations

• Complete attendance tracking, incident reports, and required documentation accurately and on time.
• Monitor site supplies and resources and report needs to the Regional Supervisor.
• Monitor and respond to site inquiries during working hours using assigned YMCA communication tools.
• Collaborate with the Regional Supervisor and peer Site Supervisors to ensure consistency across sites.
• Participate in required meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities.
• Act as a role model for YMCA values, professionalism, and ethical conduct at all times.
• May be required to perform other related duties as assigned to meet operational, program, or organizational needs.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Current Standard First Aid/CPR(C) Certification
• Currently enrolled in or completion of a post-secondary program in a child or youth-related field
• A minimum of two years’ experience supporting or delivering programs in a camp or child and youth services environment
• Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (Crisis Prevention Institute) Training is an asset
• Experience in supervising and coaching staff and volunteers is an asset
• Current Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) issued for the YMCA of Niagara if above the age of 18

Working Conditions

• Work is in an outdoor environment in various weather conditions
• Day Camp Site Supervisors typically work Monday through Friday, scheduled for shifts between the hours of 7:30am and 5:30pm
• Evening and weekend work will be required during training and for staff meetings

DAY CAMP OVERVIEW

Camp operates Monday to Friday with shifts scheduled between 7:45am-5:15pm. Most camp staff are scheduled to work between 7.5 and 8.5 hours per day.

Pre-camp responsibilities and training events may involve evenings or weekend hours.
