Job Title: Summer Day Camp Program Lead

FLSA Status Full Time - non-exempt
Reports to: Red Shield Program Manager

Schedule: 40W M-F 7am-6pm (will vary by shift), Seasonal from May-Mid August

Supervises: n/a

Rate of Pay $17.51

Closing Date: 4/22/2026

Benefits Temporary; Full-Time, Non-Exempt employees are eligible for but not limited to the following:

  • Sick leave benefit – 1 day per month, 12 sick days per year (accrual and availability begins at hire; sick time accrual is pro-rated for part-time hours.)

The Red Shield Summer Day Camp Program Lead will work daily with kids in the center to build positive relationships and foster a friendly, safe environment where children can grow and thrive. The camp serves kids from kindergarten through 9th grade. To accomplish this, the Program Lead will collaborate with Program Aides and the Program Manager as a team to deliver programming that meets the evolving needs of the children. Program Leads will also be responsible for facilitating and leading programs designed by the Program Manager within their assigned areas.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Assist with summer programming as needed, including supervision, guidance, and care for children in educational, enrichment, and recreational settings

• Provide leadership support to Corps ministry components integrated into the summer program

• Drive children to and from off-site field trips

• Ensure compliance with childcare licensing requirements

• Provide positive, encouraging instruction during group activities

• Assist with food preparation, serving, and cleanup

• Build partnerships with parents and maintain responsive, supportive relationships with children

• Help maintain discipline and encourage children to follow program rules

• Assist with general setup and cleanup of program areas and support opening/closing procedures for the facility

• Supervise rotations and manage sign-in and sign-out procedures

• Lead activities within assigned program departments

• Ensure each child is always accounted for

• Support the supervision of all children and ensure Program Aides are supervising children as required

• Maintain a safe and orderly environment

• Report all issues to the Program Manager.

• Follow all internal child-safety protocols (PTM), including proper incident documentation

• Attend mandatory staff trainings

• Other duties as assigned

Education/Experience

· High School diploma or equivalent

· Prior experience working with children in some capacity

· Knowledge of TSA preferred

Skills

· Strong multi-tasker

· Ability to work independently and within a team

· Demonstrated crisis intervention and non-violent mediation skills

· Proficiency in Microsoft products

· Working knowledge of integrated database applications and ability to learn new software with basic training

Qualities

· Maintain a high level of confidentiality

· Remain calm and effective in stressful situations

Driving

The position requires driving:

  • The employee must be 21 years old at minimum (for insurance provision) and possess a valid in-state driver’s license
  • An MVR will be processed every year in accordance with The Salvation Army’s policies

Background Check

  • Continued employment will be contingent upon a biennial (every two years) background check that is processed in accordance with The Salvation Army’s policies

Physical

  • Ability to maneuver, to remain in a stationary position, to grasp, push, pull, and reach overhead, to lift 25 pounds, to access and produce information from the computer, to operate telephone, to understand written information
