Department Description

ViiV Healthcare is an independent, global specialist HIV company dedicated to delivering innovative new options for the care and treatment of people living with HIV/AIDS. ViiV Virology is a multidisciplinary in-house organization which spans the end-to-end discovery framework: target identification / validation / optimization, pre-clinical testing, and justification for candidate selection / conduct of clinical trials in humans.

We are seeking a co-op student to join ViiV’s Branford CT site to be part of our drug discovery engine to screen, design, optimize and develop next-generation anti-HIV bio-therapeutics for HIV treatment and functional cure. This is a highly unique opportunity to join a multidisciplinary team with top-notch scientists from both ViiV and GSK working in virology, protein engineering, antibody discovery, biochemistry, biophysics, computational biology (including AI/ML for biologics design), cell biology, and in vivo biology and translational studies, as well as external collaborators on cutting-edge technologies such as cell and gene therapy. The selected candidate will be a highly motivated self-starter and will be trained not only in various technologies in biologics drug discovery but also the overall process of how to transform an idea into a candidate molecule ready for clinical trial. Minimum Qualifications

• Pursuing a BS, MS or PhD in Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related scientific field.
• Must be able to work in a BSL2+ environment.
• Must be able to work full-time (35-40 hours/week) throughout the duration of the 6 - 12 month co-op (June 2026 ~ June 2027).
• Must have an active student status and/or within 12 months post-graduation from a BS or MS degree program. Post-doctoral candidates are not eligible. 

Preferred Qualifications

• Track record of collaborating in a team-based environment.
• Attention to detail. Excellent documentation, organization, data analysis and communication skills.
• Enthusiasm and excitement for drug discovery related technologies.
• Direct experience with molecular biology or virology would be a plus, though not essential.
• Ideally can work for 6-12 months, but exceptions may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

• Must successfully pass a drug screen and background check prior to assignment target start date.

Benefits

• While GSK embraces a flexible work environment, we do require certain positions to be onsite. Candidates who are hired for an on-site role or hybrid role, and reside outside of 50-miles from their assigned work location, are eligible for relocation stipend. This is a one-time payment to help offset housing & relocation expenses. Please refer to the position details for the requirements of each position.

• This job posting is for a temporary role as an employee of Atrium on assignment at GSK. The individual selected for this role will be offered the role as an employee of Atrium; compensation, medical benefits, fringe benefits and other terms and conditions of employment shall be presented by Atrium upon offer. The pay rate range provided is a reasonable estimate of the anticipated compensation range for this job at the time of posting. The actual pay rate will be based on several factors, including skills, competencies, experience, educational degree obtained, location and/or being pursued and other job-related factors permitted by law.

  In addition, this role will be eligible for overtime pay, in accordance with federal and state requirement.

  • Pay Rate Range: $22/hr to $43/hr
