As a Quality Control Intern, you will work alongside laboratory, production, and quality professionals to improve product quality, process consistency, and manufacturing performance. Through hands-on projects and data-driven analysis, you'll evaluate testing methods, support process improvement initiatives, and help ensure products meet the highest standards of quality and customer satisfaction.

Throughout the internship, you'll gain experience applying statistical tools, analyzing laboratory and manufacturing data, and solving real-world quality challenges. You'll collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify improvement opportunities, implement solutions, and contribute to projects that directly impact production efficiency, product reliability, and customer experience.

This is an opportunity to gain practical experience in quality systems, laboratory operations, statistical analysis, and continuous improvement within a manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities Include:

Improve Laboratory Measurement Systems

  • Perform Gage Repeatability and Reproducibility (Gage R&R) studies to evaluate the accuracy and precision of laboratory testing methods.
  • Analyze measurement system performance and identify opportunities to improve test reliability and consistency.
  • Partner with laboratory personnel to develop recommendations that strengthen quality control processes.

Apply Statistical Analysis to Manufacturing Processes

  • Utilize Statistical Quality Control (SQC) and Statistical Process Control (SPC) tools to evaluate process performance and identify sources of variation.
  • Analyze production and laboratory data to establish appropriate operating limits and improve process consistency.
  • Support data-driven decision making through trend analysis, control charts, and statistical evaluations.

Optimize Laboratory and Process Performance

  • Analyze laboratory test turnaround times and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, responsiveness, and workflow performance.
  • Evaluate process bottlenecks and recommend solutions that reduce delays and improve overall laboratory effectiveness.
  • Support implementation of improvements and track project results.

Support Manufacturing Quality Improvement Initiatives

  • Collaborate with Production, Quality, and Technical teams on projects focused on improving product quality and reducing process variation.
  • Assist in identifying root causes of quality issues and developing corrective and preventive actions.
  • Participate in continuous improvement activities that enhance manufacturing performance and customer satisfaction.

Analyze and Report Quality Data

  • Collect, organize, and interpret quality and process data from multiple sources.
  • Create reports, dashboards, and presentations that clearly communicate findings and recommendations.
  • Present project updates and final results to quality and site leadership teams.

Gain Exposure to Quality Systems and Manufacturing Operations

  • Develop an understanding of quality management principles within a chemical manufacturing environment.
  • Learn how laboratory testing supports process control, product quality, and customer requirements.
  • Participate in quality investigations, process reviews, and cross-functional improvement discussions.

Qualifications:

The following are required for the role

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or a related scientific or technical discipline.
  • Strong interest in laboratory operations, quality systems, process improvement, and manufacturing environments.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data, identify trends, and solve technical problems.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, high-quality work.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel for data analysis and reporting.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating with laboratory, production, and quality teams.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
  • Commitment to maintaining safe work practices in a laboratory and manufacturing environment.

The following are preferred qualifications:

  • Coursework in analytical chemistry, statistics, quality systems, data analysis, or process control.
  • Experience using laboratory equipment, conducting testing, or participating in research projects.
  • Experience presenting technical findings through reports, presentations, or class projects.
  • Interest in quality assurance, manufacturing, continuous improvement, or chemical process industries.

Program Minimum Qualifications:

  • The candidate must be actively enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program at the time of application and for at least one semester following the conclusion of the internship.
  • The candidate is expected to be available 40 hours a week for a period of 10-12 weeks between the months of May and August.
