Job Title:

Summer 2027 Intern - Analytical Chemist

Summary:

The Analytical Chemistry Intern will gain hands-on experience supporting the Waterford Analytical team in the characterization and evaluation of silicone materials. Working closely with experienced scientists and technicians, the intern will contribute to projects involving sample preparation, data analysis, analytical methods, troubleshooting, and technical reporting while gaining exposure to research, manufacturing, quality, and customer-focused applications.

Students who have completed coursework in general chemistry and laboratory sciences, have demonstrated safe laboratory practices through university or internship experience will be well positioned to succeed. Analytical chemistry coursework is preferred, and candidates with an interest in materials characterization, analytical instrumentation, and industrial R&D are especially encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities Include:

• Support analytical characterization of silicone materials using techniques such as NMR, FTIR, rheology, thermal analysis, chromatography, and other laboratory instrumentation.
• Prepare and analyze samples, collect experimental data, and maintain accurate laboratory records.
• Assist scientists and technicians with research, process development, manufacturing support, and troubleshooting projects.
• Perform data analysis using laboratory software and Microsoft Excel and prepare technical reports and presentations summarizing findings.
• Participate in safety initiatives and maintain compliance with laboratory procedures and environmental, health, and safety requirements.
• Complete an internship project that delivers value to the Analytical organization and present results to technical leadership at the conclusion of the internship.

Job Specific Minimum Qualifications:

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Polymer Science, or a related scientific discipline.
• Completed coursework in general chemistry and laboratory sciences; analytical chemistry coursework preferred. Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and data analysis skills. Demonstrated ability to work safely in a laboratory environment and follow written procedures.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to summarize technical data clearly. Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively in a team environment.
• Interest in analytical instrumentation, materials characterization, and industrial research and development.

Program Minimum Qualifications:

• The candidate must be actively enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program at the time of application and for at least one semester following the conclusion of the internship.
• The candidate is expected to be available 40 hours a week for a period of 10-12 weeks between the months of May and August.

Base Pay Range: $22.00 - $26.00
