Walmart’s Federal Government Affairs (FGA) team, based in Washington, DC, plays a critical role in aligning the company’s business priorities with federal policy. The team advises on legislative and regulatory developments, represents Walmart before Congress and the Administration, and works to strengthen the company’s license to operate while advancing shared value for customers, associates, and communities.

The Federal Government Affairs Summer Fellowship is a 10-week immersive experience designed to provide hands-on exposure to public policy, legislative strategy, and corporate government relations. Fellows will contribute to real-time policy work while gaining access to senior leaders, industry stakeholders, and professional development opportunities across Walmart’s government affairs network.

This Fellowship begins on Tuesday, May 26th, 2026 and ends on Friday, August 7th, 2026.

What you'll do...

Congressional & Policy Engagement:

  • Monitor the Congressional calendar and summarize weekly legislative activity for internal team discussions
  • Attend Capitol Hill hearings, agency briefings, and policy events; develop concise and actionable summaries
  • Conduct research and analysis on legislation, regulatory proposals, and political developments impacting Walmart
  • Prepare policy memos, briefing materials, and internal communications


Stakeholder & External Engagement:

  • Support FGA team members in preparing for meetings with Congressional offices and external stakeholders
  • Participate in meetings, briefings, and industry engagements alongside government affairs professionals
  • Assist in organizing and executing key events, including fly-ins, advocacy days, and PAC-related programming


Projects & Strategic Support:

  • Contribute to complex, time-sensitive policy and advocacy initiatives
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with internal teams to support coordinated government affairs efforts
  • Provide logistical and administrative support, including scheduling, material preparation, and event coordination


Professional Development:

  • Participate in one-on-one meetings with senior leaders and government affairs professionals
  • Build relationships with stakeholders across trade associations, think tanks, and consulting firms
  • Gain exposure to multiple areas within Walmart’s Global Public Policy and Government Affairs organizations


Capstone Project:

  • In partnership with your manager, select a policy issue relevant to the future of retail
  • Develop and present an analysis of how federal legislative and regulatory developments may impact the issue and Walmart’s business


What You’ll Bring

  • Currently enrolled undergraduate (rising junior/senior), graduate student, or recent graduate
  • Strong interest in public policy, political science, government, or related fields
  • Understanding of the U.S. legislative process
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0
  • A successful candidate will not require sponsorship.
  • A successful candidate will be physically located in the Washington D.C. metro area.

The hourly wage range for this position is $27.00 - $52.00*
