Terms of Employment: At-will position. Substitutes are not employees of the school district but rather work on a day-to-day basis, as needed. Substitutes are contacted on a daily basis to fill in for teachers and paraprofessionals.
Salary and Benefits: Non-benefit eligible position. Compensation is recorded in a half-days or full-days. Compensation depends upon level of education, teacher certification, retirement status, and length of substitution assignment.
Certified Teacher Rate: $179.00/day
Bachelor's Degree and No Certification Rate: $143.00/day
No Degree and No Certification Rate: $113.00/day
Retired Teacher Rate: $200.00/day (Retired substitute status must be approved by Human Resources. Retired denotes that the person earns retirement pay and has fully executed retirement status as a former teacher/educator. Retired status does not require current DE teaching license.)
*Long-term status begins the day of the first day of the long-term assignment. There will be additional pay of $40 per day added to teh above teacher substitute daily rate.

The Delaware Department of Education (DDOE) provides educational support to residents from birth through adulthood.
