Job Description

Salina Public Schools is currently accepting applications for Substitute School Nurses to serve on an as-needed basis across district school buildings. This position plays a critical role in promoting the health and well-being of students and staff by providing professional nursing services during the absence of the regular school nurse.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provide direct nursing care to students and staff in response to illness, injury, and medical needs.
• Administer prescribed medications and treatments according to physician orders and district policy.
• Monitor and care for students with chronic health conditions such as asthma, diabetes, and allergies.
• Maintain accurate and confidential student health records.
• Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding student health concerns.
• Support the implementation of individual healthcare plans and emergency care plans.
• Respond to medical emergencies following established protocols.
• Collaborate with school staff to promote a healthy school environment.
• Perform other health-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Current license as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of [Insert State, e.g., Kansas].
• Current CPR and First Aid certification (must remain valid during employment).
• Strong clinical assessment and decision-making skills.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and follow HIPAA and FERPA guidelines.
• Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and adapt to different school settings.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience working in a school or pediatric setting is highly desirable.

Work Schedule:

• On-call position with flexible scheduling based on district needs.
• Hours may vary by building assignment.

Compensation:

• Hourly Rate: $27.43 (no additional benefits)
