School Bus Driver - Traveling/Sub

This is a substitute position with no guaranteed weekly hours. Assignments may vary from 0–20 hours per week.

How Do I Start? What is Required?

  • Fill out the on-line application and a Company representative will call you to get the process started!
  • Be ready to get behind the wheel of a big yellow bus. You must have PA Driver’s License with CDL Passenger and School Bus Endorsement, in addition to an Air Brake Endorsement.
  • Must have a satisfactory driving history based on review of state motor vehicle records.
  • Must have a satisfactory criminal history and child abuse history checks as required by law and the Pennsylvania Department of Education.
  • Must take and pass an initial and routine annual school bus driver physical and have appropriate inoculations and tuberculosis testing as required by the Pennsylvania Department of Education.
  • All applicants must participate in and pass pre-employment drug and alcohol test and will also participate in random drug and alcohol testing programs throughout employment.

A bus driver is a person who, under the supervision of a manager, supervisor, dispatcher or trainer, operates a van or bus over designated routes transporting school pupils, or clients to and from school or other locations.

Specific Duties:

  1. Drive a bus daily over designated routes in accordance with time schedules, loading and unloading pupils or clients at designated locations and schools.
  2. Will have the opportunity to transport school pupils and teachers on school activity trips.
  3. Perform pre and post-trip safety inspections of the vehicle being driven to ensure it is in proper working order.
  4. Perform a child check immediately after each run.
  5. Maintain good order and discipline among school pupils or clients.
  6. Follow company policies regarding pupil/client management and relations with parents, teachers, guardians, medical practitioners, medical facilities, and the public in general.
  7. As requested by the Operations Manager or Dispatcher, verify route turn for turn sheets and note any route changes with written notes.
  8. As requested by the Operations Manager or Dispatcher, make additional directional or landmark notations on bus route sheets to assist future new or substitute bus drivers.
  9. As requested by the Operations Manager or Dispatcher, observe and track route timing, such as total time enroute; time between stops; loading and unloading times or any other requested information for the purpose of establishing route efficiency
  10. Keep records and submit reports as required.
  11. Sweep, clean and refuel buses.
  12. Report all mechanical deficiencies promptly.
  13. Instruct students on safe riding classes and perform evacuation drills as directed.
  14. Comply with the Dress Code and all other rules/regulations of the Contractor’s Employee Handbook

All other duties as assigned



Qualifications

Education:

High school or equivalent (Preferred)



Experience:

School Bus Driving: 1 year (Preferred)

Commercial Driving: 1 year

License/Certification: CDL (Preferred), CDL B required
