About the Role:

The Substitute Floor Sales Worker (FSW) plays a critical role in maintaining seamless retail operations by providing flexible and reliable support across various store departments. This position ensures that customer service standards remain high even during staff absences or peak business periods. The Substitute FSW is responsible for engaging with customers, assisting with product inquiries, and facilitating smooth sales transactions. By adapting quickly to different roles and responsibilities on the sales floor, the Substitute FSW helps uphold the store’s reputation for excellent service and operational efficiency. Ultimately, this role contributes to achieving sales targets and enhancing the overall shopping experience for customers.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous retail or customer service experience preferred but not required.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
  • Basic math skills and ability to operate point-of-sale systems.
  • Strong communication skills and a customer-focused attitude.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a fast-paced retail environment.
  • Familiarity with inventory management and merchandising principles.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of safety and loss prevention procedures.
  • Additional language skills to assist a diverse customer base.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide exceptional customer service by greeting customers, answering questions, and offering product recommendations.
  • Assist in maintaining the sales floor by organizing merchandise, restocking shelves, and ensuring displays are attractive and orderly.
  • Operate cash registers and handle sales transactions accurately and efficiently.
  • Support inventory management by receiving shipments, verifying stock, and reporting discrepancies.
  • Adapt to various departmental needs as required, including assisting with promotions, special events, and store opening or closing procedures.

The Substitute FSW uses strong interpersonal and communication skills daily to engage with customers and provide helpful product information, ensuring a positive shopping experience. Attention to detail is essential when organizing merchandise and processing transactions to maintain accuracy and store standards. Flexibility and adaptability are critical, as the role requires shifting between departments and tasks based on store needs. Basic technical skills are applied when operating point-of-sale systems and managing inventory records. Additionally, teamwork and problem-solving skills help the Substitute FSW collaborate effectively with colleagues and address customer concerns promptly.
